Half-Elf Ranger/Invoker: Mechanically Sound or Completely Insane?

What about an Half-Elf Sorcerer with Dragonmagic and Twin Strike as Dilettante Power get sorcerous blade channeling (PHB2) and you're good to go. You can use ranged powers in melee while dual wielding daggers.

Actually there is no need for twin strike so she could go with any other sorcerer build and dilettante power she likes.

Anyway, you get AEs = minion sweaping, you can use your ranged powers in melee w/o provoking OAs, you can dualwield if you like, the half-elf cha bonus is useful.

Why are you a ranger MC invoker again?

multiclass invoker:

mechanical sound and very viable...

you are just lagging one point of to hit behind...
you get a skill and one encounter ranged power with some control and some autodamage iirc...

invoker has an encounter or daily that doesn´t even need an attack roll, you also are not forced to take further multiclass feats and you can grab a great utility power (don´t know if there is one which is better than ranger choices at a certain level)

also you just need to decide if you are a melee or ranged ranger and focus on (str OR dex) AND wis, at level 11 you qualify for chain due to the con increase from half elf...

Just a quick note on that party...wow is that a lot of defenders. I hope at least some of them are a bit strikery -- as without that, things can slow down a lot when you hit combat.
First of all, we implement the half-hit points rule, so encounter are not as long as they could be.

Second, the laser cleric pacifist healer has been situationally useful in the hordes of undead we've fought.

Third, the ranger has been a consistent bad-ass because of the high rolls the player keeps making

Fourth, my fighter takes full advantage of opportunity actions and immediate actions to maximize his damage output.

I'm not. As per OP, it's a half-elf ranger who is developing her MC plans. And she's really keen on the Invoker. I'm asking whether this is functionally viable, given her stats.

That's kind of awesome. Is there anyway to pull off that kind of trick (channeling range/area powers into melee without provoking AO) but in a divine flavor?

A 14 is 2 points behind in my book.

She plays a striker and if she is looking for minion sweeping you need an AE and it should be an encounter power. Furthermore, since she is a striker it should better deal some damage as well. A 14 as primary stat w/o any feat support will do neither great damage nor hit reliably.

She needs to maintain 2 weapons already adding an implement makes that 3. You would have to juggle weapons and implements to use the powers as you need them.

Every Fighter should take OAs and IIs to maximize his effectivity.

Maybe I should have written "why is she a...?".

AFAIK, no. Still if she wants to feel divine she should pray and preach whenever possible and/or grab a divine MC feat. She could even believe that her powers are divine.
Anyway to pull this off you need to reassign ability scores and build the char from lvl1 onwards. Rebuilding a char once in a while is nothing bad if you feel like the char isn't doing what you want it to do or to accommodate for changed group needs.
