Half-Price Books . . . your source for liquidated books!

The Half-Priced book store by me in Skokie IL doesn't have any of those. They did have 2 copies of the original basic game but they went quick. Also had some Dragonlance Campaign books which they still have a few of.

Maybe it's a regional thing or they're not sending them to all the chains? Don't know.

Have to check again. Got some stuff to get rid of anyway.

Ditto for me. I loved Half-Price when I lived in California and Wisconsin, but they haven't made their way East yet. Made many good purchases at that chain...

Well, they were at least as far east as Ohio, which is where I frequented, let's see, 5 or 6 different ones, 2 in Cleveland, 2 in Columbus, and at least one in Dayton. I'm in SoCal now, and they haven't spread down here yet.

Did you read the subject line?

EDIT: Actually, HPB isn't as nationwide as I thought (they're only in 14 states, I guess they just happen to include all the ones I'm in frequently). Half Price Books (no hyphen, BTW) is the actual name of a large bookstore chain, not just a description of what they had.

My first reaction to this thread was "Well great. But it doesn't help if you don't tell us the name of the store!" So its good to see I am not the only one, and to get an explination. We don't have Borders here either (but that due to the power of Books-a-Million and the fact they are an Alabama store, its pretty amazing that Barnes and Noble got set up here.)

We have several HPB stores in the minneapolis area. I picked up atleast half of the D&D books I have their. Good deals.

I do everytime I'm there. ;)

I'll be feeding the mother that shall not be named and making sure she doesn't break her other arm that day.

The Half-Priced bookstore is actually not only on the way home from work, but it's across the street from my bank where I have to do some business.

...2 in Cleveland...
I was in Cleveland for business once, and visited their downtown store. I found an out-of-print theatre book I'd been looking for for years, and had not even been able to track down a copy on bookfinder.com. Another time, one of the Milwaukee stores had about six years of DRAGON Magazine from the late 80s that someone had obviously sold to them. They can pull some rabbits out of hats, sometimes. Sic transit used book stores - still valuable in the Internet age. Or should that be especially in the Internet age?

The one in Niles is a decent store and, I agree, convenient, too. I'm looking forward to the opening of the one in Palatine.

I'll be damned...we actually have one in my town, right in the shopping center I usually go to. I'd be amazed I missed this, except I think I read somewhere that this particular shopping center has the literal worst layout in America.

EDIT: I just now noticed the line that said "Great Opening November 9." So I guess I'm completely off the hook now.

Yeah, I totally agree. Sure, the internet is good for finding a lot of stuff. There are books that I couldn't even remember the titles of, books I'd heard about or actually had years and years ago. I was able to track them down by just asking people on the internt if they'd heard of anything like what I was looking for. But there are plenty of second-hand bookstores out there that either don't have a website, or haven't inventoried all the books in their stacks so they can post them on the internet. There are still lots of treasures out there to be found for those who want to actually wade into the shelves.
