Halloween Night

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
So I am having a get together with my group on Halloween for a game session and a party. I'll be hosting said party as parents will be out of town (yes, they approved of said party). I'm going to rent some movies for the occassion, but I am curious as to which movies are the movies to watch on Halloween.

That depends; do you want some movies that are going to be mainly background noise and mood setting whiles gaming or dancing or whatever is the main activity, or movies that people will gather around and watch?

For watchable creepy movies, I'd recommend:

Jeepers Creepers
Dead Birds
Dagon
Dawn of the Dead (remake)
Audition
Resident Evil
Wrong Turn
Any of the classic era Hammer films: usually Dracula ones.

For more lighthearted fare:
Dead and Breakfast
Shaun of the Dead
Undead
Bordelo of Blood

We're throwing together a halloween movie marathon here actually. Planned for it now we have:

Corpse Bride
Sleepy Hollow
Young Frankenstein
Edward Scissorhands
and probably one more.

But we're going more for a Halloween feel as opposed to anything super scary.

I'm a classicist ;)

Gimme Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney, Boris Karloff -- old-fashioned, cheesy in many ways, but still fun.

For slightly "newer" fare, I'd go with something by Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, or Peter Cushing

Yep, the classics

Good picks Jonathan :) I love Young Frankenstein. "Roll, roll, roll in ze hay". And of course, I wouldn't argue about any of your others because they have Johnny Depp in them :D

Fru- I would definately pick the new Dawn of the Dead. That movie rocks. I think you need a good ghost movie too though....can't think of any right now.... Oh and I clicked on yor damn link and you ate my brain by the way. LOL

This is a much more difficult question than it appears. The horror genre is overflowing with quirky and enjoyable titles, to the point where making any sort of list is going to come down to personal preference more than anything else. My own list leaves off the Universal Classics (which are awesome but fairly tame), pure comedy (Young Frankenstein I adore, but going for more chills here), and the Italian gut munchers (since, in my own personal view, gore is just disgusting, not scary).

Horror of Dracula
Return of the Living Dead
Dog Soldiers
Warlock
The Thing
In The Mouth of Madness
House
Demon Knight
Kolchak: The Night Stalker (series)

I'll probably list more later, but those are likely the movies which will play well to a party environment. Dog Soliders in particular should have people going crazy.

Hmmm.
The sixth sense.
The Brother's Grimm might make it.... Haven't seen it yet though
The tenth kingdom. Not really scary, but it does have fairy tale fun and monsters.
The Ring uber freaky.
Cronicles of Narnia new version.
The haunting is fairly spooky
The House on haunted hill for the spooky gore fest.

As you can see, I'm mixing horror, suspense and action a little. :p

Yeah, the House on Haunted Hill is a good one. If I were gonna go the sixth sense route though, I would go with Stir of Echoes. That has a ghost in it too and, honestly, I thought it was better than the Sixth Sense.
You are right kirinke- the Ring was uber freaky. :uhoh: I took a a freaking Xanax after I watched that damn movie I was so freaked out. That was the only time I ever took that perscription and then I flushed them down the toilet the next day because....well.....that was just way too nice of a feeling :heh:
