Hand crossbow specialization question (2nd ed)

Hi all,

a simple question I cannot find an answer to: a) when specializing in the hand crossbow weapon proficiency, how am I supposed to determine the point blank range due to specialization; b) how do I classify 'hand crossbow' when it comes to attacks per round regarding the specialization (does it in PHB go by 'light crossbow' or rather 'other (non-bow) missles'?

Point-Blank Range: 6-60 feet. Note that the ranges are given in yards for Crossbows. (Complete Fighter has 6-30 ft, but PHB and Combat & Tactics have 6-60 ft). This means for a hand crossbow, point blank is the same as its short range.

Rate of Fire would be same as light crossbow. (This is how it is handled in Combat & Tactics).

Thanks for the fast reply. Haven't considered the Combat & Tactics books. My mistake then, because, as you say, there is a definite answer to the question of the number of attacks for hand crossbow specialists. As for my point blank problem: So the new ranges for a specialist with the hand crossbow are: point blank = 0-20, short = 20-40, medium = 40-60 and there is no category 'long' then, right?

No, it's 0-20 point blank, 20-40 medium and 40-60 long. Short is taken up entirely by the range.
