Trailer Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Season 1) trailer

Some of us are able to separate the content from the make and we should have a thread to discuss that content without worrying about the creator.
Literally everyone here who's willing to play Call of Cthulhu or include 'old gods' like themes in their games / settings is doing that with regards to Lovecraft... You need to hold your nose and put on horse blinders with that legacy.

Was in a conversation this last weekend as the news of Cesar Chavez was being discussed where the other person noted that Chavez had nothing on Jefferson or even... certain current figures... yet is being erased with almost no investigation into the claims.

Sometimes we do separate, other times we don't. Can have endless debates over who and what gets a pass.

In The Worst Witch (a similar and older UK book series) an evil witch IIRC uses a buckshot spell, presumably because she thinks it’s neat (and also none of this save or die nonsense, it’s supposed to hurt).
The 1977 movie Wizards. Spoiler but... one Wizard ends the battle at the end by pulling out a revolver and shooting the other guy... who has his spell casting ended in a sudden "you can't do that" moment...

If HPL were alive, I think that would change the conversation quite a bit.

WW gives zero faeces about mundane laws
They also view muggle tech as crude, primitive and beneath them. But main thing is, HP is kids/young adult book series. Factor in that guns are that big culturaly in uk or europe in general, and it's easy reason why no one uses them. You also don't see anyone using cell phones ( Nokia 5510 was big in 98) or telephones, no kids walking around with GameBoys or walkmans (which is something one would expect in school in that era).

True. Presuming he still held those views. A decade ago I would have said no famous author would have views like that in the modern era... but these days... he'd probably be even worse.
And HPL's toxic views helped create works like Lovecraft Country which uses his racism as a jumping off point for a really interesting novel (and somewhat less successful TV series). So it is possible to make something of even the worst people's views, once they're no longer around and actively profiting off it.

Lovecraft isn't alive. It's not the same thing at all. Not for most people.

Lovecraft's work is also in the public domain, and furthermore he's also not using vast wealth and political power to materially harm minorities. It's disgusting that Potter crap has persisted as long as it has, and absurd that this TV show is just going to make even more people buy stupid merch to fund a raging bigot's campaign of hate.
