Harry Potter PoA: Hermione's punch?

Wolfspirit

First Post
Hey, maybe I'm going crazy, but does anyone else think that the way Hermione punched Malfoy in Prisoner of Azkaban would have landed her with a broken hand? All I know is that when I was watching it I cringed and was waiting for the sounds of a snap.

I realize that the loose hand (not really a fist) made it easier to make it look like she made contact without really hitting, but I really hope noone tries that at home.

(Not that I really condone anyone punching to the face in the first place, as that can hurt like heck even if you do it right)

Speaking from past experience, punching someone in the face does hurt, but not so much if you use your knuckles as opposed to your fingers.

I *think* that afterwards, her right hand's wrapped up, though it's obviously not broken. Then again, being Whomped could have that side effect, too.

Punch, eh. In the book she slapped him. Slaps are meaner than punches. Anyway, maybe Hermione is a secret kung fu specialist and knows how to throw a correct punch.

I haven't seen the film, but if it's shot right and sold right, a punch doesn't even need to come within six inches to look like it's hitting on screen.

It's all about the sell :)

So there's no reason not to make a proper fist...

... unless you're an actress with no prior physical training getting thrown into a role that requires it, in which case your reason is 'ignorance and incompetence' :)

i like the open palm strike, using the heel of the palm for the impact...of couse thats so i can throw my weight into the strike. And then if the hit doesn't drop the victim, then i can grab, pull victim in and use the teeth. :D

So FranktheDM has Improved Grab, eh?

I think a punch was better than a slap, because it goes against the notion "girls slap, boys punch". I like that :)

One of my favourite screen punches is Marion vs Indy in Nepal... :)
