Has anyone experimented with Gestalt characters?

nobody has taken me up on the offer yet but here are my house rules: 1. 30%xp penalty 2. gestalt must be done at first level 3. no prestige classes or changing classes until epic level is achieved 4. i set the base classes up in trees and told players they could not gestalt 2 classes in the same tree ie no fighter/barbarian or cleric/druid combos. this seemed to be a good way to balance in a campaign with single class characters although i am not sure that i got the xp penalty right....suggestions anyone?
Only that I would do it completely opposite. ;)

1) The whole group or no one so the XP is not needed.

2) agreed. :)

3) This would be the last thing I want to see either as a player or a DM. What will you do when their picking up bonus epic feats every level? Their for I would insist on 5 levels of difference between class A and class B. (As A player it removes options and that isn't what I ever want to see.)

4) I sort of see this but only with spell casters of the same type of spells. No cleric/druid, no cleric/favored soul. etc.

I'm DMing my wife in a solo campaign with NPC helpers. She's a Half-Elven Rgr/Wiz2. Since she's in armor she mainly uses the Wizard powers for off-screen spellcasting and item use (wands, scrolls). I don't think it's a "power" combo, but it allows her to play the character the way she wants to - a Ranger with some Arcane knowledge and power. Plus, as solo, it really helps being multi-talented without giving up the levels.

It works well for us, but I haven't seen it used in a group, so I don't know how group dynamics work out. So far I haven't increased the CRs yet because she can't afford Wands of Fireball or anything, and so far she's rolled really poorly on her Arcane Spell Failure, so it's hindered her more than its helped.

I'd really like to try a Cleric / Wizard gestalt combo sometime. Seems like an intresting concept, but unfortunately I can't help you with anuthing, since I'll be occupied with our regular campaign for the foreseeable future :(

Wait, what was the question? Let me think a minute...

Okay, I think I got it (scribbling furiously). The definitive answer is:

Wait. What was the question again?

Monk Gestalt!

I'd love to play a Monk/? Gestalt. Seems truely vicious to me. Monk/Cleric or Monk/Rouge are highest on my list.

Monk/Cleric gives you great boosting spells to an already powerful class and allows you to have magic weapons for fists. Greater Magic Weapon + Produce Flame = Flaming Fists of Doom! :) And Magic Vestment helps with the AC problem for monks. (Not to mention many other spells.) Add on the Magic Domain and things get even nastier.

Monk/Rogue entertains me just because of the stunning fist/sneak attack combo. :)

I'm the DM right now, but hopefully someone will let me play this at some point.

Thanks for listening,
ThaDium
