And no, I'm not trolling.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of 4E. I've played it and it's alright but I prefer 3.5. Okay, my bias has been disclosed.
I know for a fact that 4E is not as universally popular as 3rd Edition was. Yes, there were and still are some people who preferred earlier editions to 3rd but by and large 3rd was a huge step forward and didn't have anywhere near the controversy that 4E has.
What I find on EN World is that the mods quickly stomp out threads of people who dislike 4E and prefer 3E. "Oh, another edition war thread. Closed."
Why not create a section just for edition discussions? (pardon me if there already is one, I couldn't fine it).
I think a lot of the criticism of 4E is legitimate (just as criticism of 3E is legitimate) but it feels like EN World is a 4E booster and if you say something bad about 4E the mods are going to shut you down. Feels like censorship.
People not liking 4E is a legitimate issue that WotC needs to be concerned about. Clearly 4E has caused a divide amongst D&D players and that's not good for the game (or, at least not good for WotC).
Sweeping complaints under the carpet is not good for D&D. It just shrinks the fanbase.
Anyhoo, just wanted to get that off my chest. I can understand why you don't want the 3E or 4E sections being taken over by edition wars, but why not create a place where such discussions can take place. Afterall, isn't EN World for all D&D players, not just 4E lovers?
