Has enthusiasm died?

My problem is finding gamers. Around here all the gamers are either very young (freshmen/sophomores) or very entrenched (seniors/grad students/dropouts).

The people in the gamer "scene", anyway. The older gamers are a clique group of rather ... stereotypical ... folks.

The younger folks are all new and are interested mostly in hack'n'slash D&D and leveling up their Monk character because: "DUDE, I'll get quivering palm ... SO COOL. Dude. I flurry of blows."

*sigh*

Where I'm really interested in a D20M campaign. Low power, investigatorial. I've been roped into some levelfesting just to get my dice dusted off. But three weeks of that and I'm already burned out.

dead? nah!

I really don't think it's dead, it's just that, well, it's less popular than D&D. That means that, just by raw numbers, it's gonna be less active then the D&D boards. Also, it seems that most of the questions are being answered rather quickly, or didn't need to be asked at all because of the FAQs or Bullet Points. I guess, well, right now, it doesn't have much 3rd party support, at least compared to D&D, so there are less competing classes and rules.

I'm just getting into d20Modern.

Confidence is high.

Wish I could afford Urban Arcana...
too much money on books in one month...

...I expect it's popularity will grow especially after the release of Gamma World and d20 Future.
It's just anecdotal evidence, but I've seen some die-hard d20-haters over at RPG.net who're planning to buy into d20M simply to play the new Gamma World. I'm hoping it's a trend.

I'm with Joshua Dyal, I think all the forums have been slow lately. Since this forum has less traffic on a normal day, slow days are going to make it seem like a ghost town.

I just got the Menace Manual and I really like it, it has all kinds of creatures that will fit in the campaign I'm planning. Unfortunately, my players are all very busy right now and have been for months, so getting to play is tough.
I don't have much of a head for balance and rules, so if I do create stuff for my game, I usually keep it to myself rather than post it. I have a few wondrous items I could add to this thread https://www.enworld.org/index.php?threads/64876/ but I never bothered to write up caster level, purchase DCs etc. for them. Same for pretty much all of the stuff I think up, I either don't write out the crunchy parts, or I'm not sure it's balanced or even competent, so I don't post it here.

We'll be due for more traffic soon, I'm sure.

Naaaah, just now we've got the initial rules arguments out of the way, so that's one thing less to ask about. Mostly I'd imagine that everyone who is into D20 Modern is currently campaigning their little hearts out. :D

Now if only I can convince three more people that modern can be fun.

I think 2 reasons:

the target audience is smaller than D&D in practice (maybe not in idea though)

the boards are slower right now in most forums for what ever reason (I'm slower because work is busier).

I'm actually not looking forward to any supplement for d20M... just trying to refine my game (and setting to a certain degree).

Tell you what: I made a fun little one-shot, and it went well enough that I'd actually like to publish it. I have no intention of making money off it, though --that would only complicate things. So I'll try to take up some thread-space with talking about that and asking help on, you know, making it into a real actual product. Or at least, something a GM would like to download, if not pay for. :)
