Hasbro 2Q results

As Ryan Dancey posted over on Gaming Report, total CCG sales are still in the hundreds of millions. I don't think Hasbro will be getting rid of any WotC properties any time soon.

Besides, the D&D brand is worth a fortune and the RPG keeps the brand alive. Even though the RPG division doesn't pull in the big bucks, last I heard it is profitable. As long as that's the case, I don't think Hasbro will touch it. They have owned WotC for a couple years now and haven't made any big changes.

I don't think any other company interested enough in the D&D brand to actually considering purchasing it outright could even afford it. The entire D&D brand and all that goes with it such as video game rights and so forth, is probably worth well over $100 million, I'm sure.

, I wonder if the news from the games segment indicates that Hasbro might be more interested in selling some of their game licenses -- such as the Dungeons and Dragons line, or other products acquired in the purchase of Wizards of the Coast.

More important would be to wonder who would buy it if they did sell, and would the buyer necessarily do a better job with it than WotC under Hasbro...

I'd guess that since RPGs weren't even mentioned that the D&D impact isn't that significant.

DnD is just a small percentage of what Hasbro takes in. But I would like to see the RPG numbers.

It would be Green Ronin, and their 4th edition would be stupenduous. (Just a guess of course... :o )

Uh, you don't work in a big corporation do you?

If the company thinks a division isn't profitable enough (makes money, but we'd like it to make more), they will try to cut costs to please investors. Read cut costs as eliminate jobs.

Very true.
But also note, they aren't stupid.

If that section is profitable now, and they haven't put that much into it. They most likely will leave it alone, unless there is an obivious method of deriving more profit from shaking it up.

I've been in companies that have bought and sold each other like hotcakes. The only difference to me was where my paycheck came from.

Except that Hasbro doesn't have video game (or movie) rights to D&D. Atari has the video game rights for another 10 years or so, and Joel Silver (or someone associated with him) has the movie rights.

Of course, my "dream buyer" for D&D would be the same guy who bought it last time, Peter Adkison (WOTC's former janitor).
