Hasbro announces 3rd quarter earnings conference call

Yikes, Kzach! You're getting more bitter by the day! :p

"Failed DDI screwup"? I must have missed the press release where WotC said that DDI had failed and they were giving up on it. (No, because that didn't happen.)

Maybe you meant that WotC "failed" at "screwing up DDI"? Given the negative tone of your comment, I can only assume that this is grudging praise for the digital initiative, coming from someone who bitterly wants it to fail.

Or maybe you're just the sort to call a race in the first lap.

Well, DDI was indisputably screwed up - it was supposed to be fully operational at 4E's launch. And when something is screwed up, it usually means somebody failed.

I wouldn't say DDI itself has failed yet, but it is not inspiring confidence thus far. We'll see how things turn out.

lol Given Hasbro's past treatment of D&D they're more likely to say:

Wizards of the Coast, our division that makes Magic: the Gathering and other games, had a successful quarter with increased sales from the reissue of one of its popular game lines.

While I don't know if they have had increased sales, I think this will be the closest thing that WoTC will get to a mention in the discussion.

FYI guys...

Hasbro announced that it will webcast its third quarter 2008 results via the Internet.

The webcast will take place on Monday, October 20, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time, following the release of Hasbro's quarterly financial results.

Thanks for the heads up, joe!

That's a fair assessment, though I prefer a bit more optimistic. After all, we are talking about software, the sort of thing with which, (for most companies, it seems), delays are the rule rather than the exception. Besides, as far as I'm concerned, some of the most important parts of DDI are already available: Dragon and Dungeon magazines, and the D&D Compendium.

What concerns me about WotC's direction of late is the apparent downhill slide in editting standards. (I don't mean the occasional spelling error so much as the formatting failures in certain places, which would've been obvious to anyone who had looked at them.) The core books weren't bad, but since then, it's been rough. Poor editting and formatting bugs me.
