Haste Question

Without the haste, speed is 20'.

With the haste, 40'. Haste adds 30' to the recipient's base speed, but only up to a maximum of twice the recipient's normal base speed. (And, yes, the human's normal base speed is 30', but his normal base speed in that armor is 20'.)

My take:

Base speed: 30 ft.

In armor: 20 ft.

Light load doesn't impact speed. Also, encumbrance doesn't stack with armor for this purpose; only the worse restriction of these two is applied.

Hasted: +30 ft., but can't more than double normal speed (which is 20 ft. because of the armor). Thus, 40 ft.

Edit - Heh. Scooped by Kenobi65. :)

I'm making a Barbarian/Paladin NPC build for a friend's game. Went from CG to LG after being introduced to religion. Anyway, he gets +10' for his first level of Barbarian. I also ended up giving him Divine Vigor which, among other things, gives him another +10' for minutes. If I put him in Medium armor (drop his initial speed to 20'+10' right?) and then use Divine Vigor (not sure what happens then), how does Haste affect his speed?

I ended up just giving him Light armor (mithral Medium at higher levels), partially just to avoid the headache, partially so that he retains some of his other class abilities, but I'd like to know my options.

Jdvn, unless Divine Vigor increases the character's base speed, it and Haste are probably not going to stack.

Edit: Haste gives an enhancement bonus to speed...not sure what sort of bonus Divine Vigor gives. If Divine Vigor gives a different bonus, they might well stack in theory, but you still run into the limitiation of Haste, described in earlier posts.

It's probably a Divine bonus, but I could be wrong. But you're saying if my speed is 30', I get a +10' boost, then Haste could only help me (assuming it actually helps) to put my speed to 60'?

I believe so:

All of the hasted creature’s modes of movement (including land movement, burrow, climb, fly, and swim) increase by 30 feet, to a maximum of twice the subject’s normal speed using that form of movement.

Your normal speed in that armor would be 30'. The boost from Divine Vigor makes you 40' temporarily, but that's not your "normal speed."
