I don't know, but it certainly sounds plausible.Cthulhudrew said:Does anyone know offhand if the secret project that WotC asked Monte to work on, but that he turned down, may have been 4E?
I think this was because 3.5 was a pseudo-edition. It was a too big change for just being a "revision", and three years is really waay to early for a new edition. It was something in between. And he disagreed with some changes, like damage reduction - and I understand it completely.SSquirrel said:I rememebr the article you're talking about I think and yes Monte was having a bit of a rant. Mainly b/c while 3.5 had been planned from the get-go, they had been told it would be another year or 2. He felt, very strongly, that 3.5 was coming out too early.
He doesn't know enough to either praise or condemn it. And honestly, we don't know either, how should he be able to do that?montecook said:Of course, I got asked a whole lot of times what I thought about the big announcement from Wizards of the Coast regarding 4th edition. My answer is, basically, that I can't think one way or another about it yet. Now that it's finally announced, I doubt that I know any more than anyone else. I'm excited for my friends that worked on it (and are still working on it) though, because I know first hand that it's got to be a fun and thrilling time for them. Not without its own unique challenges, of course, but then that's part of the fun.

Cheers, LT.
Given what everyone's pre-Gleemax personal blogs and sites read like, I'm guessing the flaws in 3E aren't a big secret to them. Nearly all of the 3E designers have a ton of house rules on their personal sites, which is hardly the sign of "I think 3E was PERFECT."Gundark said:True, I'm sure he doesn't know a whole lot about 4e. I understand that a lot of the people who worked on 3e are still employed by WotC. For those who aren't (and I guess those who are), I wonder what it's like to see designs that came about in 3e that are getting chucked in 4e. Especially ones that prehaps were your brianchild, or at least got to work on and develop.
Well, I'm going with the sentiment that they likely know little more than we do, which makes it hard for them to have an informed opinion.Gundark said:Just curious as to what monte and others who designed and wrote the 3e books think about 4e.
If that was the Green Ronin podcast, I think they were saying that lots of people did skip editions. It might have been Pramas saying that he skipped 2E, after briefly sticking his toe in.Kid Charlemagne said:I've been told that in a recent podcast, Monte said he was probably "skipping an edition." That may just apply to Malhavoc, rather than his own gaming plans. I know that he's starting up a campaign or two in Milwaukee - one of my old players is playing in it - and its going to be 3.5, not planning on switching to 4E, and its slotted to go to high levels. We'll find out if Monte, like most gamers, is unable to withstand the lure of shiny, new books.
