have you been micromanaged?

I'm feeling very micromanaged at work lately. Once a week or more, a new notice with some very specific instructions apears on the "wall 'o micromanagement" that I need to initial to show I read it. One of the was about (I kid you not) the right number of paper towels to use when cleaning off tables. Wasn't this a Dilbert strip?

What is the most micromanaged you ever felt?

That is, indeed, micromanagement. Someone has too much time on their hands when they start worrying about things like that.

Context matters. In a restaurant or retail outlet, such things would be micromanagement. For a health provider, it's may merely be a way to meet certain standards of clenliness.

unfortunately, no, its "only use one per cleaning so we can save one paper towel roll a month" or whatever. And don't clean up dog pee with paper towels.

It is a cost thing. The more towels used the more money spent. That's why in fast food if you bring your own cup the drinks are free. The fountain drink costs less than the cup it comes in.

I understand the motivation. That doesn't change the warm glow I get everytime I see one more perky little memo telling my exactly how to do my job.

I was reciently told, in the save conversation, that opening trouble tickets was a waste of our time when we could be doing something better, and to open tickets for every single alert, even when alarms are duplicates or caused by the same issue. :uhoh:

Of course, on any given day, I can open as few as 0 tickets, or as many as 50, depending on what application we're monitoring that week, and that's not always an indication of the ammount of work I'm actualy doing.
