Have you ever killed a player by mistake?

While I'm aware it's unlikely, if any of you have accidentally (or deliberately) killed a player, we'd all love to hear about it.

Go on.

You're amongst friends...

Well, not actually killed, but I tortured a "player" for hours in what turned out to be a futile attempt at Invoking the Unmentionable Hastur on an Oil Platform in the North Sea.

If it wasn't for those darn kids, I would have succeeded, too....

Well we might be among friends, but if anyone has ever murdered a fellow player, be it a friend or just some bloke they met at a convention, I'd advise them to get legal advice before posting what will basically amount to a confession here. :)

I sometimes make my rolls in plain-sight of the players, partly because I don't feel tempted to fudge stuff, and partly because it creates more drama watching the die itself. But anyway, one day, I rolled three 20s for an NPC goblin that got cornered after his buddies had fled. The goblin dropped the party barbarian with one swing. It was a show-stopper.

No, but if I do, I'll ask the fine communities at EN World for advices on how to convince the police I'm not responsible at all. Failing that, I'll burry the corpse somewhere it won't be found.

Yeah, I think you've pretty much only got two ways to go:

a) Admit to killing him straight away (call police and ambulance etc.) but say that it wasn't your fault because the roleplaying screwed up your mind (clearly this question refers to a situation where both killer and victim are roleplayers because it uses the world "player" rather than just saying "person").

b) Try to cover it up: hide the body, clean fingerprints off all surfaces, burn anything that might have incriminating forensic evidence etc.

Well...to set the stage my group (all 1st level) were attempting to clear out a goblin infested silver mine. It was being run by a bunch of gnomes, and the DM threw in a new invention of the gnomes. TnT! Well the gnomes also had some steam powered devices that the gobbos turned into mine cart mounted death machines of whirling bladed death...with this in mind and that fact that my character has no idea about the physics of any of then tosses a stick on the Gobbo Death Machine...It was explained that the little sticks make a big boom and blow stuff up...sounded like a good plan to me. Unfortunately for my the Two fighters of our party were in base to base contact with Death Machine when the TnT blew...Boilers and Explosions dont mix and 38 damage later we had two very dead fighters and one massive cave in.

All in all not my plan but...we had 2 very dead player characters.
