Have you ever played with a 'standard' party?

Here's a question: The 'standard' or 'generic' party consists of a fighter, rogue, cleric and wizard. This is supposedly 'standard'.

Have you ever played in a game with a 'standard' party? I have only once, and that was in a tournament.

So how standard is 'standard'?

Often; usually it's Fighter, Fighter (/rogue), Wizard, Cleric, Rogue; sometimes Something Else occupies the second fighter slot. Sometimes the Fighter slot is taken by a Ranger. Sometimes the Wizard slot is taken by a Sorcerer.

There are two characters types that I rarely see the players take and that's rogue and cleric. Most players in my group feel that these two are for 'support' as opposed to playing and they prefer fighters and wizards, or some variant of those two. Bards? What the hell is a bard? Monks surpringly, have seen some use as back up fighters.

Since 3 edition came out, I can't ever remember a time when I was in a standard party. In fact I can only think of two characters that were fighters in three long running campaigns. However we usually have at least 2 arcane casters and 2 rogues in our group of eight.

Our current party is close. Sorcerer/mindbender, cleric, Ranger, rogue/fighter, sorcerer/blood magus.

The player playing the blood magus is on his third character. The first was a half-orc fighter, and then an elf fighter/rogue.

Guess I am the exception.
For the last 5 years the game I DM I have had the "standard" group. My group has been the same four players the entire time. We have made new characters about 6 times and I always have the standard.
The players switch around what they want to play so they I really dont have the chronic always a cleric player. But I still end up with one of each.

My last group had a barbarian, two wizards, a rogue, and a ranger. The one before that had a fighter, rogue, ranger, and bard. Nobody in my groups seem to like clerics, for some reason.

Nope...

Never with 4 usually is 6. Our current group is

Frenzied Barb
Fighter
Monk
Order of the Bow
Wizard
Wizard

Always have a tag along cleric npc of some kind.
