Literally hundreds.
I have founded three different gaming clubs, one of which is still going strong after 20 years.
I only wish I had more time to continue introducing players to gaming.

Alas, no. Not enough Charisma or confidence.

I'd rather GM with friends and play with strangers - I don't think strangers are going to be willing to put up with my GMing weaknesses.

A club like that was founded at U of T, but it was really about people who were already gamers who didn't have anyone else to game with. We didn't create new players rather than just ... extend them.

Got my girlfriend hooked after she kept hearing stories about my online gaming group. She's a complete and total convert, and even keeps up with the horrendous gaming jokes.

In the last 3 years I've introduced about 12 people to D&D. Most of them don't still play because I wasn't able to continue DM'ing for them for whatever reasons or they found interest in new things (like WoW...curse you WoW!).

A couple of them still play though. They really enjoy it.

I've introduced a few people to D&D, and I've explained RPGs to a lot more. Usually, it's someone's significant other, wanting to spend more time with that person. Naturally, those tend to fall by the wayside after a while. Still, I love to talk to new people about how RPGs and D&D works, and will always gladly show someone who's interested in how to play. :)

Now, I gotta disagree with the "curse you WoW" comment. :) I play in a game on Sundays that has been going on more or less for 5 years (rotating players, games, and locations.. but still a core 1-2 people who have been there all along). The neat thing is that every single person at our table plays WoW as well, on the same server too. Some aren't playing as often as others, but we have that connection, and it doesn't interfere with our Sundays. Then again, we were all gamers long before WoW came out, more or less. That alters things a bit, too..

Quite a few. Of my current live (as opposed to the online one) gaming group, every single one of them I introduced to D&D, and only one of them had played another RPG before that.

Demiurge out.
