Ya know for a couple years now we have been inundated with posts from the newer RPG community about how everyone needs to be more inclusive. We need to create safe environments and get rid of the gatekeepers. I guess that's a one way street.

It's obvious that you guys are 100% on the 5E train and that is fine. Some people like some of the improvements while also hating parts of it. That is their right. You guys want to bash James Grover for his "rage quit" post but damn, you did everything you could to force it. The guy posted here with his displeasure with archtypes. Asked for opinions of how to change them or if anyone had. You guys jumped right into the edition bashing and told him how his fun is wrong. Get over it. I run a weekly 5E game but I am not exactly thrilled with the rule set as it stands. Some of my players love it, some don't. For now I am running it but does that make me somehow wrong because I can criticize parts of it? It's great that some of you love the game as a whole but put down the WOTC koolaid once in a while, it's ok for people to not share your view.

Honestly, I thought the discussion was pretty productive until the OP played the "you don't need mechanical choices, you just need IMAGINATION" canard at post 18. He seemed pretty peeved that most people were like "I'm sure you could play without archetypes, but why?" and didn't get on his bandwagon.

It's fine if you like and prefer the tropes of old school D&D, where paladins were always lawful good and barbarians couldn't be in a party with magic-users, but you have to accept that in the year 2019 you're going to be in a steep minority with your preferences.

Oh I agree with you about that but I think there was more to it than the OPs posts. Some people here get pretty condescending about AD&D tropes or mechanics. It feels like any mentions of house ruling anything to feel more "old school" is met with aggression. Not sure why it is. I stopped posting on the 5E facebook group for the same reason. I have DM'd for 30 years and switching to 5E was a challenge for me. There are still aspects that I really don't like but I am dealing with it. Some I have learned through play aren't as bad as I thought and some I have found suck as bad as I thought....for my game. That's the difference here. I don't ever post trying to convince someone to change their view. I post my opinions and value yours until you decide to bash me. Maybe it's just the way I perceived but it definitely turned into a mosh pit on the OP. I don't blame him when it becomes 4-5 vs 1 all jumping on him. Honestly, if someone doesn't agree with the OP and has nothing to add constructively then why even post?

In my experience, as soon as someone posts the "my edition and/or playstyle just requires more IMAGINATION", things inevitably go south.
