Head of the class (stonegod judging)[Concluded]

"Perhaps this cultist had contact with the unfortunate Loris? I should probably search them carefully for any keys, papers, or other objects that might give some clue as to where they are based."

Anvuss begins seaching each opponent as thoroughly as possible, taking 20 on the search. If he's told there isn't enough time, he will take 10 instead.

(Search skill +7 for 27 or 17.)

Edit: to save time, perhaps Anvuss could search some of the bodies, and Raven could search the others. Anvuss will start with the Red Robed Cultist.

OOC: Did you mean MW leather armor? All MW does for armor is reduce the ACP by 1. Leather armor has an ACP of 0. So MW leather (or padded) is really no different than normal armor of that type.

ooc: While there is no mechanical difference, it is still more expensive. No reason it couldn't be made for the fashion conscious villain.

As for forgetting to check the thread, it's b/c its in this LEB forum. I log into LEW frequently, but then forget to switch over to LEB! I"m really enjoying this adventure - as I knew I would. I'm thrilled to get in on an adventure that you're DMing!

ooc: You might want to give the user control panel a try. I subscribe to all the threads I'm intereste in, then go there to see them without distraction and all in one place. Only glich is I need to remember to check the LEW forum for new proposals periodically.

Fang cocks his head and looks at Shoot quizically for a moment before getting up and trotting over to Shoot.

At Shoot's words, Professor Reeger freezes and tries to make himself look at the red robed cultists face. As soon as he does, he lets the breath he didn't realize he was holding out explosively before saying, "Oh thank the Host! That's not Loris. But, did your wolf get Loris' scent from him?"
Shoot bent down and gave Fang a big hug. Maybe that was it! "Was that Bad Man playing with the Teacher's Helper? Was that Bad Man playing with the Teacher's Helper?", he asked the wolf playfully. There was no way to know for sure. But since the Bad Man in the red robes wasn't all broken, maybe he'd get better enough to talk, and then maybe he could say what happened to Loris. Shoot willed himself to remember that the Teacher's Helper was named Loris.

Shoot's spell reveals that the potion vials and the wand are both magical.
"Hey, Anvuss!", he called to the other 'forged. "Some of this stuff is magic! The stick...and those bottles...do you know what any of that magic stuff is? Is that a w-w-wand?" Shoot's friend liked magic. He knew a lot about magic, too. Maybe he could teach Shoot some more magic stuff...

"With that pearl, I should be able to identify the wand if you so desire. There are less expensive ways to identify potions, but I am not sure I have mastered the apropriate procedures. If anyone has a potion of cure light wounds, it would be interesting to compare side by side with the ones we have found. That is a very common type of potion, and it wouldn't surprise me to find these were either of that type or slightly more powerfull variants. Once we have the liesure to work on those problems, there are some things we can try."

"So, perhaps they found the codes, but still want your notes to help translate it. And they know where your office is. I suggest we move these documents to a safe place. It appears these men have had contact with Loris, quite possibly taking them. We could question them ourselves when they awaken. But if the watch gets involved, we may not have that option. Also, one of them ran away."

Is there a place we could hustle to to see out onto the street, and perhaps see where he flees to? Raven thinks and talks as she helps Anvuss search the bodies.

"Let me see those potions" Seat tries to identify them; they are familiar, but can't pinpoint exactly what they are.

"I think there's but one theory that explain all the data." says the dwarf, somewhat pedantically. "This cult must have kidnapped Loris, with the express prupose of accessing and translating the Codex. It's not probable that Loris is a member of the cult, because in that case his dissaparition wouldn't have been neccesary, indeed he'd been more useful for the cult here. I think we can assume safely he's alive, and held in a place not so far away, probably in this city, and this man" he points at the red robed cultist "Knows what place is it. We should interrogate him as soon as possible. I have prepared an old elvish ritual of wound closing we could use for reviving him, but in any case he must be securely tied, as should his companion there and there. They should regain conciousness in time, and we don't want them wandering around."

"And in any case we have to dead people here. As soon we finish we should call the guard: I don't want any problem with them. And raven, Professor Reager wanted some discretion. Better not to mention the Codex aloud when we have third people around."

It occurs to Raven that the small window in Reeger's lab (where you are currently located) looks out onto the main courtyard of the complex. If the armored man headed towards the front entrance, she might be able to see him through it. However, when she looks, she doesn't see him out there.

When searching the body of the red robed cultist, a scrap of parchment is found tucked into a pocket in his shirt. On one side it has a crudely drawn map of the lab, with an X drawn over a section of the table. A quick glance reveals that location on the table to be empty. The other side of the scrap is what looks like the remains of a flyer or advertisement. It has a drawing of a tankard with a foamy head (a popular representation of beer), and the letters S - T - O - and what looks like the letter I, but the top portion of it is missing.

A search of the other cultists yields nothing further.

"I like your theory, Seat. That would explain this map they have, too. It could have been drawn by Loris. And of course we shouldn't mention the codex in front of anyone. You can go now, Professor, to see Gerald. We have a couple clues, and do have some other leads we could explore, but our best bet are these cultists on the floor. Let's not call the watch until we've interrogated them. And no time to lose."

Raven will use her 50' silk rope to tie up the living cultists. (Use rope untrained +2). She'll tie them all together, so as not to have to cut her rope.

"OK Seat." She says when done. "Let's wake up their leader."

Anvuss isn't satisfied with a quick glance. He searches the table thoroughly to see if the X refered to a secret compartment, hidden marking, or other non-obvious thing.

"Do you still have that detection magic working, Shoot? is there anything magical in here?"

"I have, if it's needed." says Seat, and casts the spell ((ooc: Spellcraft +7))

If it's not successful, Seat things that maybe the cross wasn't pointing at the table. He examines the ceiling (though that will require probably someone taller), the table's underside and the floor under the table.

He also casts cure light wounds on the cultist once Raven has him well tied, dicsovering that the ancient elven spell is quite effective (9 points healed)
