Head of the class (stonegod judging)[Concluded]

Shoot barely noticed Raven's first mention of the Mournlands. But when she mentioned it a second time, and all but accused the teacher-man of going there, he listened intently. The Mournlands used to be his home, back before the Day of Mourning. What did the Mournlands have to do with the teacher's helper disappearing? Shoot wondered...

Raven walks slowly to the door with the addresses. "Thank you, Mr. Reeger. Another thing, I couldn't help noticing the title of the book on your desk, 'Mournland Expedition Artifact Catalogue'. Was this codex actually found in the Mournlands? If so, how did it come into your possestion?"

"Why yes, yes it was found in the Mournlands. There was a small expedition there, and they brought it back to Sharn where I, ah, er, procured it."

[sblock=Sense Motive DC 3]You get the feeling that Reeger is being purposefully vague. You also get the impression that he couldn't tell a lie to save his life.[/sblock]

Shoot was now paying full attention to Raven and the teacher-man. He was playing the guessing game! Shoot thought that was strange, since he needed help finding his helper. He shouldn't be playing guessing games now, although it might be fun to do so later.

"Are you playing games with us?", Shoot coyly asked. "I like playing guessing games, even though I'm not very good at it. We could have fun doing that! But I think we better wait. We need to find your helper first. Then we can play games."[sblock=OoC: ]Nothing like having a Wis of 16 to help make those untrained Sense Motive checks. d20+3=5[/sblock]

OOC: With a +2 Wisdom modifier Tali can't possibly fail a DC 3 sense motive check, but since it's untrained, I'm not going to bother rolling.

And I was starting to like the guy... the Kalashtar thinks.

ooc: It´s also impossible for Seat to fail the Sense motive check, the least he´d roll is 4

"If we have time we should talk with the expedition members" says Seat, as if giving it little importance. "a document so important, it´s former owners must want it. There´s the possibility that they have something to do with all of this"

As Seat finishes inspecting the documents, he leaves to help with the lab search. "Not a clue here", mentions.

"No, nothing like that. I assure you, I ... it's just ... you see ... well you have to understand, some of the artifacts that make their way here don't always come through the best of channels. Sometimes we have to rescue important historical artifacts not just from the ravages of time but ... the ignorance of black market fools." He falters for a moment, then sighs, "I'm sorry I didn't mention it sooner, it's just not the sort of thing you prattle on about. You understand, don't you?" He looks plaintively to the group.

"Oh, agreed." says Raven quickly. "This sort of document shouldn't be in the wrong hands. Shouldn't be in left moldering in some antique shop either. It should be studied. I'm sure you did the right thing, even if it was difficult. Perhaps you should tell us where you got it though. Perhaps it's prior owners have reason to want it back."

Anvuss shrugs, neither the idea of theft nor that of buying goods off the black market has any particular resonance with him yet.

"I do not see how your method of acquisition would impact our recovery attempt, unless Seat's suggestion bears fruit and it turns out that a former owner has sought to recover it."

Reeger nods, "I picked up the codex and a few other books from Darius Books, down on Wood Street. Tell Darius that I sent you."

OOC: Where to next? Seat mentioned going to the lab, I think. Are you going to split the group up? For reference, it is now around 9 PM, and has been dark for a little more than an hour.
