"Will Fang alert us to trouble if any should occur? My eyes are not the best, especially at night."
Shoot was quick to respond. "Oh, yeah, he sees good at night. But he smells more than he sees. If he smells trouble, he'll bark. Won't ya, Fang?", said the warforged as he gave the wolf a firm stroke on the shoulder. Fang whined in response.

After procuring supplies, the party makes their way via various paths to Reeger's office on the fourth floor of one of Morgrave's smaller towers without incident. The hallways of the tower are relatively quiet, with only the occaisional student or professer hurrying through the halls. None of them pay you much attention.

The door to Reeger's office is made of a stout, dark wood, and a brass plaque on the left side of the door reads:

Malentis Reeger, Professor
Magical Crafting History

When you come within roughly five feet of the door, the etched wording on the plaque glows blue, enlarges, and hovers a few inches out from the wall. At the same time, you hear a faint chime ring inside the room. Almost immediately, the door opens to reveal professor Reeger. He peers quizzically at you , "Yes? Can I help you?" He leans in as if he is listening to you say something, then quickly and somewhat loudly says, "Well yes, you can come in, but do make it quick." He waves you inside.

Once inside, he turns to you and says, "Prompt, I like that. Loris worked with me here in my office, that's his desk over there, and my lab is on the 7th floor. So then, where would you like to begin?"

Shoot was eager to get started. "Do you have something that Loris had that Fang could sniff?", asked the wolf's master. "He has to smell something to find out where Mr. Loris went."

Anvuss ponders the artistic magic employed in the plaque, as well as the words themselves. He mutters to himself as he considers.

"Magical Crafting History... an interesting field. Investigating such mysteries as whether House Canith discovered artifacts from Xen'drik which inspired its creation of the warforged, I would imagine. Knowing who crafted the first eternal wand."

While he waits for Fang to be presented with an article from which to pick up the scent, he carefully examines Loris's desk for anything that might be relevant. Take 10 on search at +7 = 17.

"Perhaps it would be wise to thoroughly search Loris's effects. A complete search would naturally be time consuming, but if you would allow it..."

Anvuss would prefer to take 20 searching the entire office, which would provide a 27.

"Yes, Loris left his scarf over there on a peg by his desk. By all means, take your time."

The office is decently sized, about 15 feet by 15 feet, with a high 10 foot ceiling. A large mahogany desk, presumably Reeger's, sits near the door. The walls behind Reeger's desk and to the opposite of the door are lined with bookshelves. Various papers are scattered about on the desk, as well as a couple of leather-bound tomes. A small metal wastebasket sits to the right of the desk, and a comfortable leather chair sits empty behind it.

Pushed up against the opposite wall is a smaller wooden desk, presumably Loris' desk, that is completely covered in stacks of papers of varying heights. A simple wooden chair is tucked under the desk. The four wooden pegs on the wall to the right of it are empty, save for a woolen, blue scarf.

[sblock=Anvuss]Your lengthy search reveals that most of the papers stacked on Loris' desk are student essays and tests. The only other thing of note that you find is a small gold raven pin in one of the desk drawers.[/sblock]

[sblock=Shoot]Fang can definitely get a scent from the scarf, but given the time that has passed and that he'd be tracking someone via scent in a city the size of Sharn, his chances of success are remote (mechanically impossible). I hadn't looked at the scent ability all that closely before, but for every hour the trail is old, the DC for following it increases by two. Since Loris has been missing for at least 24 hours, that adds a +48 to the base tracking DC. However, if you still want Fang to pick up Loris' scent, he'll certainly be able to alert you should Loris ever be nearby to you.[/sblock]

"This might be of interest... it is unfortunate Aidan is not with us, he seemed to know about symbolic devices. It seems to represent a raven, and is crafted in gold. Does such a pin have a specific meaning?"

ooc: Nobody smack me for this, but I just realized I completely spaced out getting Anvuss any thieve's tools. Fortunate that Raven is here! Next time we get money he'll need to correct that little error.

[sblock=Raven Thorn]Raven's the only one who has Knowledge[Local], so you can give it a try if you like.
[sblock=Knowledge(Local) DC 15]The pin is an entry pass to a mid-upper class casino called "The Gilded Raven". While they are a nicer establishment, it hasn't entirely left its criminal ties behind.[/sblock]

Shoot retrieved the scarf and presented it to Fang. "Find 'em, boy, find 'em!", he encouraged the animal. Fang eagerly followed the scent into the hall, but soon lost the trail. Shoot soon returned to the office with the animal, both seeming a little discouraged. "Well, you tried", he consoled the wolf. "We know you tried your best." Shoot kept the scarf in his pocket. You never knew when something that had a missing guy's scent would come in handy.

Raven will aid Anvuss in his search. (her search check is +6.)

She also wanders over behind Reeger's desk. She will be polite and stop, acting innocent, if he seems offended. But if possible, she will take note of the books and papers on his desk, and see if the drawers have locks.
