Head of the class (stonegod judging)[Concluded]

[sblock=Raven Thorn]You wander over to Reeger's desk and note that he too has several student papers on his desk, as well as attendance records, and what looks like the beginnings of a grant proposal. The titles of the two books on his desk are "A Treatise on Necromantic Energy Patterns" and "Mournland Expedition Artifact Catalogue". You have enough time to note that his desk has three drawers, the bottom of which has a keyhole. Before you can find out if it is locked, Reeger notices you and looks at you with a confused scowl.[/sblock]

Reeger seems disappointed that Fang lost the trail, but puts on a good face. He waits quietly while the group scours the room.

Seat examines briefly the room while the other work before doing any activity himself. "It´ll be better if I examine the papers, I think I´m in the best position to do so. I intend to be thorough, and so it´ll take a while. In the meantime, see if you can find any of Loris´ friends, and interrogate them discreetly. Try to find out if he had money problems, or any unusual behaviour."

ooc: I´ll read each documents on Loris´ desk, at least enough to find out if they have either something to do with the research, or has something unusual on them. I imagine you´ll treat it as a Search check: taking 20, the roll would be 23.

[sblock=Seat]Your lengthy search reveals that most of the papers stacked on Loris' desk are student essays and tests. The few notes present don't appear to have any relevance to the codex.[/sblock]

Raven raises her hands defensively when Reeger scowls, but doesn't smile. "You never know where a clue might be." She continues away from his desk and walks a circuit of the room. "So, Mr. Reeger, have you been to the Mournlands?"

In any event, Raven is ready to move on. After the current conversation has run its course, she asks Reeger, "We probably should interview Loris' friends. Do you know where we might find Mr D'Orien and Winterbourne?"

"I agree; we're done here." Tali says.

OOC: Although coming here was his suggestion, there are others in the party who have much better Search skills than our Soulknife.

"This might be of interest... it is unfortunate Aidan is not with us, he seemed to know about symbolic devices. It seems to represent a raven, and is crafted in gold. Does such a pin have a specific meaning?"

Anvuss turns his attention to Reeger and rephrases his question so as to be more easilly understood.

"What is this pin?"

At Raven's words Reeger smiles, "Ah, of course. Well, I've kept what few notes I have left on the codex locked in a drawer in my desk. You'll have to excuse the mess, I'm a bit behind on grading papers."

Manzanita said:
"So, Mr. Reeger, have you been to the Mournlands?"

"Me? No, no, far too dangerous for me, sad to say."

Manzanita said:

"Ah, yes, let me get you their addresses." He heads over to his desk and pulls out a small notebook from the top drawer. He writes down the addresses of Kiri d'Orien and Miles Winterbourne on a piece of paper and holds it out to the group. Kiri lives in a dormatory across the campus, and Miles has a small apartment about a quarter mile from campus.

"What is this pin?"

"Hm? Oh, that. I've seen Loris wear it sometimes when he leaves early." Reeger peers at it a bit more closely. "If I'm not mistaken, I think I've seen Miles wear one very similar on occasion."

"If you need to examine the lab, you'll need me to come and unlock it. If you're going to head out, I'll head home for the evening. I'll be back here bright and early tomorrow though."

"Perhaps it will provide some leverage in discussing this with Miles."

Anvuss examines the pin in detail, and then sticks it in his pocket.

Raven walks slowly to the door with the addresses. "Thank you, Mr. Reeger. Another thing, I couldn't help noticing the title of the book on your desk, 'Mournland Expedition Artifact Catalogue'. Was this codex actually found in the Mournlands? If so, how did it come into your possestion?"
