Head of the class (stonegod judging)[Concluded]

Seat kneels by the fallen spellcaster and binds his wounds. "We, or the guard, will need to question him. Better not to let him die. Meanwhile, I believe there's another of them, the one that got away just when the fight started. You shold go for him, before he does whatever he's come to do."

[sblock=ooc: ]Stabilize the spellcaster and as many cultists as he can, taking 10 on the Heal checks (+7).

I think the combat was well played, though I have my own style: I tend to group all the bad guys in the same initiative, it streamlines the combat. About the rolls, I don't even see the need for you to post the links to them, so eother way is fine to me[/sblock]

ooc: Grouping all the badguys on one initiative distorts the combat a bit, especially for a rogue. It basically makes initiative results black and white when they would otherwise be grey. I agree it's simpler, but I like individual initiatives.

At Tali's comments, the elderly professor's expression changes to a smile and he says, "Damn right, looks like you fellows really gave them a good thrashing!"

Professor Reeger pokes his head out into the hallway, the color rapidly returning to his face, and at Anvuss' question he says, "That armored lout, he mentioned something about documents, and a name. What was it? Bryllys?" As he speaks, his bravado starts to return and he notices the other professor in the hallway. "Gerald? Is that you? Still sleeping in your lab I see. You haven't changed one bit you old scoundrel. When did you get back from your western expe ... just a moment." He gives a meaningful sidelong glance that is almost comically obvious to Anvuss (who may still miss the meaning) and says, a bit too loudly, "I thank you, sir, for clearing this up so quickly. I only hope that I have helped you in your investigation. Here is the key to my office, and to my desk drawer. If you have any more questions for me, I'll be over there in Gerald's lab, catching up on old times." Unless anyone makes a move to stop him, Professor Reeger makes his way to Professor Gerald and practically drags the man into Gerald's lab.

Meanwhile, Seat is able to save the red robed cultist, and cultist #1 and #3 from the cold grip of death.

When Shoot commands Fang to follow the scent, he sniffs at the scarf and then bounds a few feet down the hallway. Then he turns in a circle, and finally paws at the robe of the unconcious form of the red robed cultist.

[sblock=OOC]I'll probably switch to the UBB encoded links (which include the numbers). I don't mind the extra work that separate bad guy initiatives generates for me.[/sblock]

[sblock=Loot Post]The cultists are surprisingly well-equipped, and the following can be found on them with a cursory search:

5 Masterwork Sickles (Silver Hilt w/Gold tentacle wrap) (306gp each, sell value = 153gp each)
5 Cult symbols (Golden brain in the middle of a triad of silver skulls, hung on a silver chain)(50gp each, sell value = 25gp each)
5 Masterwork Leather Armors (160gp each, sell value = 80gp each)
5 potion vials of pale blue liquid
1 Wand
1 golden serpent design ring
1 copper dragon design bracelet
1 Pearl
400 gold pieces[/sblock]

Somewhat perplexed, Anvuss avoids further comment. After helping to gather up all of the loot, he then heads off back to Professor Reeger's office to check out the contents of the desk drawer. Presumably everyone is coming....

Seat holds one of the cult symbols, trying to remember something about them ((ooc: rolled a 17 in the Knowledge (religion check))). Though he doesn't need any academic knowledge to deduct it's a quite wealthy cult.

"What are we going to do with those? I've saved three of them including the leader we can interrogate -since it seems they have our man- but I don't know if we should call the guard or something."

Anvuss pauses while the group decides what to do with the cultists. He looks over to see if Professor Reeger has a suggestion.

"Not so fast!" Raven snaps, grabbing the back of Professor Reeger's robe. "Let's get these bodies in the lab and search them for clues. You can chat with your friend here in a moment. For now, we need to ask you a few more questions for our investigation." says Raven firmly. She pulls him back into his lab, and helps the others get the bodies inside before closing the door.

"Now professor. Do you know of these men? Or their 'Master Bryllys.' These 'Khyber cultists'? And they said they were after 'the documents.' Do you have any other documents of value in here, or do you reckon they must be talking about the codex? If so, then they obviously don't know it's missing."

OOC: Did you mean MW leather armor? All MW does for armor is reduce the ACP by 1. Leather armor has an ACP of 0. So MW leather (or padded) is really no different than normal armor of that type.

As for combat - please don't feel any pressure from me to link your rolls. I trust you to roll them as you see fit & need see no links. I almost never check them.

As for forgetting to check the thread, it's b/c its in this LEB forum. I log into LEW frequently, but then forget to switch over to LEB! I"m really enjoying this adventure - as I knew I would. I'm thrilled to get in on an adventure that you're DMing!

Shoot broke into laughter at Fang's antics, which was a curious and unsettling thing for those who had never seen a Warforged laugh. "Look, Mr. Teacher!", he called, "Fang thinks the man in the red robe is your helper!" He turned to the wolf, and spoke. "Fang, that's not the Teacher's Helper", he chided in the manner of an adult playing along with a child's joke.

Shoot glanced at the growing pile of confiscated equipment. "Hey! I can use one of those si-si-sickles!", he grinned. "I only got one more spell left today, but it's a good one!", he beamed. He started casting a spell that would Detect Magic on the pile of loot.

Professor Reeger stops short when Raven grabs hold of him. Professor Gerald chuckles and says, "Deal with this mess first Mal, I'll be here later should you want to catch up, or should the watch wish to question me." He then heads into his lab.

Professor Reeger turns around a bit sheepishly and says, "Th ... thank you for saving my life. I owe you and your companions a great deal. I'll report this to the watch, and handle any questions they have. You ... er ... you don't need to be here when they show up, if you prefer." He glances at the rapidly cooling corpses on the floor and pales a bit before looking away. "Khyber cultists. What if they know about the codex? That would make the most sense, I suppose. The documents up in my drawer detail some of the more difficult translations I made on some sections. Those must be what they were talking about. I would assume that if they were looking for the codex, they would have said 'book'."

Fang cocks his head and looks at Shoot quizically for a moment before getting up and trotting over to Shoot.

At Shoot's words, Professor Reeger freezes and tries to make himself look at the red robed cultists face. As soon as he does, he lets the breath he didn't realize he was holding out explosively before saying, "Oh thank the Host! That's not Loris. But, did your wolf get Loris' scent from him?"

Shoot's spell reveals that the potion vials and the wand are both magical.

[sblock=Revised Loot Post]Huh, not sure what I was thinking with the leather armor, but it is indeed Masterwork Leather Armor.

5 Masterwork Sickles (Silver Hilt w/Gold tentacle wrap) (306gp each, sell value = 153gp each)
5 Cult symbols (Golden brain in the middle of a triad of silver skulls, hung on a silver chain)(50gp each, sell value = 25gp each)
5 Masterwork Leather Armors (160gp each, sell value = 80gp each)
5 potion vials of pale blue liquid (Magic)
1 Wand (Magic)
1 golden serpent design ring (sell value = 150gp)
1 copper dragon design bracelet (sell value = 20gp)
1 Pearl (sell value = 100gp)
400 gold pieces[/sblock]

OOC: I think I'll wait to award exp until the end of the "game day", which is probably coming up soon.
