Heads up: Baldur's Gate II patches 2007

I'm playing Baldur's Gate 2 again, great game.

In fact, Baldur's Gate 2 is so great lots of people have worked on unofficial patches for the game, in their free time.

So, if you feel like playing BG2 again, when you have installed the game and the latest official patch from bioware.com, I suggest you install the BG2 Fixpack (as of writing, the latest version is from 28:th of January 2007).

This unofficial patch fixes things from minor typos in the dialogues to improvements in graphics and the removal of different exploits in the game. Very nice, especially since the latest official patch is from 2001!

Pardon my ignorance, but the box my BG2 game comes in only lists the Operating Systems from 98 up through and including 2000. Does the latest patch allow one to play this game on XP Professional with SP2?

Yes! My gaming computer has Windows XP and it works flawlessly. The default resolution is 800x600 (the game is 7 years old after all), but it's possible to play at 1024x768 and higher.

I hate 800x600. It is too uncomfortably large on the eyes. Have you played it at higher resolutions?

I tried 1280x960 and it works just fine. Even 1600x1200 and 2048x1536 is supported. Or, rather, it's "unsupported", but there's a setting for it in the config program. It works for me tho. :)

Hands-down my favorite party-based CRPG, even though the rule set is older.

I'm currently running BG1 again to go through the whole saga. I'm in Chapter 2 but the scope of the game is so large, I might as well be 1,000 miles from Baldur's Gate proper right now. :D

And it's nice to use the FR campaign setting manual to help keep the FR flavor alive in the game.

Where/how do you configure? Thanks.
