Help create a Magic sword

Strider an-ti-one

First Post
A campanige i'm in the dm is allowing us to create are own magic weapons that is a quest for right now he told us its anything goes but instant death spells or one hit kills no high damage like 1d6 +100 types

let me start off my character is a halfling of the tallfellow subrace if you don't know what that is is that they are bigger than regular halfling about six inches to a foot taller. 3Rogue/7Ranger
10 over all.

the weapon i had in mine is a shortsword like capcom's strider sword than giving it a ff7 twist to it in that it would have slots on the handle at least two. i used some of my skills to create it like i have 10 ranks in craft(gemcutting) so i used that to by crafting gems to fit in those slots and gems i craft will be like magical batteries empowering that sword with a small array of elemental abilites depending on the color of the gem ruby(fire) aquamarine(ice/water) topaz(lighting) emerald(earth) because i have master them but in the instant of different gems i compled a list of ten different spells were i roll a 1d10 to pick form to keep it simple and ramdom ,oh yeah the gems come with up to four charges depending on how long i craft it 3 hours one charge 6 hours two charges 9 hours three charges 12 hours four charges and i have it take it to a alchemist to bring them on and after i finish with them they turn to dust they can't be used again afterwards. and how many charges i used depends on my use magical device score add to a 1d20 roll
so i'm in the predicament of abilities to put on my 1d10 roll
i got a some:
1 polymorph(changing the blade size from short 1d6 or long 1d8 or great sword 2d8 size)
2 flare(blinding light)
3 Bane(random)
4 deflect magic
5 absorb magic
6
7
8
9
10
i need five more

It might be easier to simply have the sword use gems mounted in it to charge its powers, slowly absorbing the gem. Every X gold pieces the gem is worth powers an ability of Y level, dealing some damage to the gem that cannot be repaired. The type of gem would determine the power, i.e. ruby = fire, etc.

BTW, loved that game, and the sword, too.

I'd do this differently mechanically. I'd run it like a weapon of spellstoring. The gems would be used to store different spells. In gemcutting you could transfer a spell that could be stored in a weapon of spellstoring from a scroll or a fellow caster into a gem. Then the sword might hold up to 1 distinct gem for each +1 bonus you spent on this ability. Switching gems or replacing a destroyed gem would take a full round action.

For instance a black gem might hold a blindness spell, a green one a poison spell off of the druid spell list, a red one vampiric touch, etc. This is simple and easier to come up with effects for. Here are 10 possible spells to mimic.

1. Blindness/Deafness
2. Poison
3. Vampiric Touch
4. Shocking Grasp
5. Ghoul Touch
6. Hold Person
7. Cause Serious Wounds
8. Bestow Curse
9. Suggestion (Surrender to me)
10. Ray of Enfeeblement
