Help! I can't find it!

I selected the "2nd Edition" prefix because I think I originally used this under 2nd edition, but I'm not sure.

I thought they were in the Monster Manual of one of the earlier versions of D&D. Anyway, once upon a very long time ago I created a campaign that employed large cats (panthers, cougars, or something like that) that were intelligent and I think they traveled between the planes protecting people or cats or something. I believe they were either Lawful Good or Chaotic Good.

One thing I think I remember is that certain creatures (cats, probably) could be promoted to be a member of this group if they were particularly worthy. Again, the details are really sketchy.

I wish I could provide more information, but if I knew the details I wouldn't be asking for help. If this sounds like anything anyone can remember, I'd appreciate a pointer to the information.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

"The cat lord, or master cat, is the ruler of all forms of felines...."

Something like that?

Perhaps, but you're describing an individual creature. What I recall finding in the published material is a group, a team of ubercats. I don't recall that there was any individual leader. (But, just because I can't remember it doesn't mean there isn't one.)

I immediately thought of the Tibbit from Dragon Magazine #135 and the Dragon Compendium, but they weren't large cats, just regular sized, so they might not be what you meant.

My first guess would have been a Cat-Lord as well, and he could summon cats, were-tigers, elfin cats, all to be his personal guardians.

If not him, Tabaxi would be a good guess.

I might hazard Were Tigers themselves...but more unlikely...

If it weren't for them being good I'd actually say Rakshasa.
