Paladins are nice if they're done right. In my current group which has a CN red dragon, a LE imp, and CE succubus, a Paladin's head would explode. They just don't exist in our group unless you use the variants. I suggest using the variants (ie the Paladin of Freedom which is CG) that can be found in Unearthed Arcana, and use PHB II for Charging Smite so you don't have to worry about a mount. As well, take Serenity from Dragon Compendium Vol 1 which uses your WIS instead of your CHA for Divine Grace, Lay on Hands, Smite Evil, and Turn Undead. Also, I don't know how effective that Remove Disease X/week will be for you, but there are two variants on that as well from Champions of Valor. You can change it to Remove Curse X/week, or you can go with Haste Self X/day. Personally I'd go with the Haste Self which gives you +1 attack, +1 AC, +30 movement, and during a full round of attacks gives you an additional attack at your highest bonus. I use the spell on my ranger all the time.
Other than that, can't really go wrong with a Monk or Ranger. Mystic Rangers are full spellcasters, and Holy Monks are non-spellcasting Paladins that do unarmed damage, and can freely cross class with a Paladin. Monks have good WIS to begin with, so combining those two, with Ascetic Knight, and Serenity, and you've got one heck of an awesome build (so long as you go LG for alignment)
