Help me build my NPC duskblade

Hi there, I'm new to the boards here and am DMing a game and want to create a nemesis for the party. I was originally going to create polar opposites for each PC - most of whom are Chaotic Good - but, thought it was a bit too cliche.

However, I did get an idea of using an elf duskblade as the minion/enforcer of the main bad guy instead of a Paladin of Tyranny.

This duskblade will be 6th level and will be strength-based, not dex-based. Kind of goes against the grain, but I want somebody that is kind of a wrecking ball in combat but not your standard barbarian or fighter.

First off, since I haven't used the PHB 2 very often, I just want to make sure of my understanding of duskblades:
If the duskblade is in melee combat, they can cast a touch spell of 1 standard action or less in casting time and *then* make a melee attack with their sword that would release the touch spell providing they hit (via Arcane Channeling).

Do they still get their second melee attack if they do arcane channeling and make their first attack? If they miss on their first attack, but hit on their second, is the touch spell still released?

And, for the Quick Cast feature, for those spells, they can still do their full-round action after they cast a swift spell (meaning, cast on their sword, move 30 feet and attack twice at 6th level?)

What would you take for the 3 optional feats? Power Attack, Cleave and ____? Something else?

How about spell choices? I was almost certain to take Scorching Ray as the 2nd level spell... how about 1st levels?

you cant move and then take a full attack - but you can swift cast and full attack, or swift cast move and attack once.
a touch spell is normally held for 1 round per level if the attack misses, or until another spell is cast.

the duskblade in my game had a nasty combonation of Blade of Blood, Truestrike (swiftcast)
and Shocking grasp (channeled spell) for 1d8 + full PA, +8d6.
blade of blood may not work with a channeled spell, its still ugly with out it.

Oh and take improve intiative - the duskblade is a steamroller at the begining of a fight.
 


welcome to enworld. but, i'd go with shocking grasp as well. if your duskblade moves up down the road (nemesis implies ongoing, no?) vampiric touch is an awesome 3rd level spell.
