Help me get excited about 2nd Edition.

It looks like we will be going back to a long running 2nd Edition campaign, once I finish my 3rd Ed game in a few weeks.

On the plus side we won't have minitures on maps we will have more descriptive combat. I must say this is the biggest selling point I can find so far.

On the minus side much more limited character development options. This is the biggest draw back in my opinion.

I managed to get myself killed when we finished the game last time, and as my character refused to worship any god (even after they appeared to him in person), he's now stuck in limbo. Which is fine by me.

Some please tell me what's good about 2nd Edition.

I'm thinking of playing a priest of one of the Norse gods, anyone have any recommendations for a deity to worship?

Also anyone know which 2nd AD&D book the Norse Pantheon is described in?

Kits!.. err.. wait.. no.. they suck..

Profici..err... them too...

Racial level limits! That will teach those elves!

Ok, my only serious answer: You got full system support of Spelljammer and Al Qa *FRICKEN* Dim!!

...tuneless whistle...

(most of us _stopped_ playing D&D during 2e... or at least lots of us did)

Sorry, BP. I never played 2nd Ed. It looked so pointless I just kept on playing 1st.

But um... Didn't the Monster Manual have, like, insertable looseleaf pages? That's pretty cool.

And hey, Dark Sun.

Yeah, but when something better comes along, you kinda left the other one in the dust.

Kinda like trading a Ford Explorer with Firestone tires for a Hummer H2. :p

I'll only play if I have to, when I'm bored and I want to be with my friends, who wants to play 2nd edition.
