Help me get excited about 2nd Edition.

Hey stop hi-jacking my thread!!!

I don't care what version is the best. I know which I prefer. The point is I'm stuck playing 2nd Ed, so it doesn't matter if it sucks because of X or is better than 3rd Ed because of Y.

Okay I tell a lie I am interested in Y, as that's the sort of thing that will make it worth playing again, although the main thing is the company, not the rules, which are a lot worse than 2nd Ed IMHO.

...Out where?

WOTC has a lot of that old stuff free for the download at their site. Plus there are fans sites that still support 2E. PLus you can get books cheap on Ebay, real cheap, or at old bookstores. Or ask all the 3E players you know to box their 2E stuff and hand it over to you. You would be amazed. I am talking sheer volume of materials here. Which, I suppose, eventually turned out to be a BAD thing.

Those were so stupid! They could just cap elves at 20th-level. To see if I have this straight: elves were the best wizards. They taught magic to humans. Why couldn't elven wizards exceed 15th-level? Did they suddenly suffer "XP block"?

You missing my point. My point is that if Elves, for instance, COULD go up unlimited why are they not ruling the world? The gods would prevent it? Lack of desire? Sailing into the West? What? I makes no sense to me that long-lived races, with their ability to plan over the course of centuries, would not be exceedingly powerful if they had no limits to how powerful they could become.

If you must have an in-game explanation of level limits, how's this: The gods, when dolling out the advantages each primary race got at the creation of the world, gave elves long life at the expensive of high power. Humans, on the other hand, were flash-in-pans by comparision. How's that?

 Huh? You started the thread by asking people to give you examples of what made 2E good. I gave you one of biggest lists so far with 13 points. Isn't that what you wanted?

Sorry If I am getting drawn into other discussions, but I am just answering questions people are asking me, as a courtesy.

 ?

Out of respect for Bagpuss, I have split the posts about kits and 3E off into another thread, called "Kits vs. 3E..." Anyone (rounser, wizardru, spatula, etc.) wishing to continue that discussion let's please take our discussion of that over into the new thread.

Bagpuss, when is your 2E game, anyway? I missed that part.

I see that no one else mentioned another plus for 2E: reduced eyestrain, since the typefaces are larger.

Also, fighter/magic-users. And no CRs.

Not sure, as soon as my 3rd Ed game comes to a holt, I could keep running for ever but my #DMing stamina isn't that great.

The other player/DM seemed to think in a couple of weeks.

No, no your fine. It was just starting to get into one of those catty pointless debates about which is the best system. My point being it doesn't matter what the best system is as I will be playing 2nd Edition.

So there is no point in people saying 3rd Ed Pestige Classes are better than 2nd Ed kits because XXXX. Since I don't have the option of Pestige Classes, etc.

There really should be no need to compare with 3rd Edition in this thread as I won't be playing 3rd Edition, its not an option.
