Help me make my D20 shopping list for this weekend!

My FLGS sucks, to be blunt. They hardly carry anything, and won't even order it. The other gaming store in town is run by a very scary guy who treats women customers like invaders into sacred testosterone territory.

But I'm going to visit the in-laws this weekend, and their city has an excellent GS. So.....what should I buy? On my list so far:

Seven Cities
Book of the Righteous
Path of Magic
Counter Pack II (if it's out yet)

I can afford perhaps another $75. What should I spend it on?

I don't have it, but Requiem for a God might be good if you don't like one of the gods in Book of the Righteous. :D

If you like CoCd20, then FFG just put out a big book that is one giant modern day campeign. It is on my list- so I can't speak to its quality.

What have you got already? There are lots of great books out there and it would also help if we knew what direction you were leaning in as far as content is concerned. Personally, I think Hollowfaust is an excellent book, though of limited use unless you are running scarred lands or need a cool city somewhere in your homebrew.

Otherwise, I highly recommend all of FFG's Path books, Traps & Treachery I (if you're a player) and II (if you're a DM), any of the FR suppliments, Oriental Adventures, Rokugan and Spycraft.

AEG's Mercenaries is top notch. It's by far their best book yet.

I've also heard great things about their book Magic.

Spells and Spellcraft and Occult Lore are two of the better books that have been out for a little while.

Silver Marshes is probably the best FR book to date, and that is really saying something.

What do I have already? Yikes! Prolly easier to say what I don't have. I stopped buying the AEG single word books when WAR came out. I don't have Way of the Ninja. I don't have most of the Slayer's Guides, nor any of the Cities of Fantasy, nor most of the Quintessential series from Mongoose.

I'm interested in titles that will make game prep easier for me. Maps, NPCs, encounters, monsters, maybe even some modules will actually end up getting used over and over.

The only one on this list that I don't have is Mercenaries. I'll flip through it to see if it will work for me.

Furn, I'd forgotten about Requiem for a God. I didn't realize it was out. I'll definately be looking for that one.

Do you have the Creature Collections?

The Kalamar modules?

Armies of the Abyss? Legions of Hell?

Kalamar's Villain Design Handbook?

CoC d20?

A copy of Toon? :D

Need a city, grab Bluffside....new PrC-Librum Equitis, new magic Wild Spellcraft (all MEG/TG)other cool stuff: Oathbound (Bastion), Book of the Rightous (GR) and I am sure I am missing stuff...

Wicht, I think I'm missing a couple of the Kalamar modules. I'll check. The ones I have are excellent, and I've been harvesting bits from them.

CoC isn't my cup of tea, I don't think. I've got the other ones on your list. Last time I went down there I spent about $400. My husband nearly had a stroke.

Maps - Backdrops has good maps.

Encounters/Maps - Urban Blights has great maps, and has drop in locations for your cities.

NPCs - Enemies & Allies is about the only NPC book that I could honestly recommend picking up. I have Villains, but could only really see using 1 or 2 of the villains. If you are shopping for a city setting, Bluffside is stuffed with well developed NPCs.

Monster Books - Creature Collection II and Legions of Hell are the best IMO. After that, you might try Minions (which has a lot of creatures I use a lot, and has neat sections on how to use the monsters, but there are some dumb creatures and the art really blows) and Armies of the Abyss (not as good as it's predescessor, but nice if you like dropping demons on your PCs). Monsternomicon is out, but I haven't had a chance to see it.

Modules -
  • Enigma of the Arcanexus is coming out in print soon.
  • All three books of the Rappan Athuk series are out now and you would likely get a lot of use out of them if you are into old-school dungeon crawls.
  • Tomb of Abysthor is a great value, not quite as beefy or imaginiative as RA, but much cheaper and there is a chance your players will get through it in this lifetime. :)
  • Hall of the Rainbow Mage is an extended adventure, a dungeon crawl with some nice roleplaying and intruigue.
  • Banewarrens is out in print and PDF, and is a great, thick event driven adventure.

Also, probably not related to your GS trip, there are some nice PDFs out. NPC essentials is a nice GM tip books and Malahavoc's Requiem for a God is very inspiring and useful.
