Help me name a Firey Macguffin

The Vulcan Bellows

An artifact that does not create fire from nothing, but that can make any fire into the mightiest inferno. Rumours say that it may have been used in the creation of the fires of the Elemental Chaos itself, and since in the forging of many artifacts.

Nice!

Its an oldie but a goodie - the Egg of the Phoenix, particularly a delightful paradox due to the nature of phoenix reproduction. I have fond memories of the module as well.

The Burning Hate.

It's an iron link out of a chain. It is rumor and myth, lost to eternity. Eons it took Levistus to scriven it's whereabouts and how to free it.

It sits at the heart of elemental fire and though its touch would freeze a world it is the source of the unmaking flame. Fire enough to burn all of creation to ashes.

But the mad know...

It is the keystone in the bonds of Tharizdun himself. The essential link in the chains that trap his very soul. His eternal burning hatred for all things that exist. To free it is to free Tharizdun and begin the unmaking of creation.

Coincidentally (or not, perhaps, to give Google AdSense its due), one of the current banner ads is called "Lamentation of the Flame Princess", which, um, kindled an idea for a plot twist.

What if your obscurely-named McGuffin actually turns out to be a person? Could make for a good moral dilemma, if the PCs are sent out to destroy "it" in order to prevent it falling into the wrong hands.

There's a Clark Ashton Smith story called The City of the Singing Flame. That's usable as is, or you could amend it to The Sceptre of the Singing Flame or The Signet of the Singing Flame if you need an object rather than a place.

Some names / creatures that pop into my mind when you talk about fire, powerful artifacts, and 1st ed AD&D:

Draco Conflagratio Horribilis (the pseudo-Latin name of red dragons in the 1st ed MM)
Sultan of the City of Brass (an efreet noble)
Imix, Prince of Evil Fire Creatures
Fierna and Belial, archdevils of the 4th layer of Hell (Phlegethos)
Mephistopheles, lord of the 8th layer of Hell (Cania), experimenting with hellfire
Fire giants, and their god Surtr (I think someone already mentioned him)
Phoenixes
Lava children
Firesnakes
