Dusty Dragon
Hello
So in my Yoon-Suin campaign, the party henchman/servant (named Udit), prodded by the party, has offered a sacrifice to a forgotten god (crushed a bug on the altar) and is being blessed by clerical magic. He's effectively become the god's high priest... but because the god is so weak, all he's getting is the magical initiate feat. This means 2 cantrips and 1 first level spell.
It seems to me that the magic received should reflect both the desires of the NPC and of the god. So he's getting Thaumaturgy because the god wants him to be his Voice and spread the faith and be all impressive-like. He's also getting mending because Udit, as a servant, is frequently having to repair things and he's cheap.
But for the single first level spell.... I'm kind of at a loss. So if you could give me suggestions and more importantly, *why* it fits, let me know. To help you in this process, the god and the NPC:
The Beetle of Mislaid Memories: The shrine of this forgotten god is in the ruined/abandoned part of the Yellow City, and has been forgotten, in part due to the influence of the God. This particular god has never been powerful as its powers/domain are not popular and tend to make people forget about it. This is problematic in Yoon-Suin as the gods require regular sacrifice to maintain their powers and at this point, the Beetle is so weak that giving a single human the magical initiate feat is the most it can achieve. The god's goals is to receive more sacrifices and to have its shrine moved back into the city so it can regain its modest level of power/influence.
This god prefers the sacrifice of parchment, paper etc, but at this point will accept anything. I'll note that in Yoon-Suin most gods are "animal-aspected", but that doesn't make them the "god of animal X". There are also several hundreds of them and some have particular combo of form and domain. The Bull of Battle "fits", but Dyson, the God of Maps, is an orangutan. So the Beetle of Mislaid Memories doesn't actually give a damn about insects.
Udit, the henchman: Udit is a Lamarakhi man in his early 30s. He's an exile, having been kicked out of his clan and has been living in the Yellow City. (the Lamarakhi are river people who navigate the convoluted God River up and down). He is cheerful and devoted to his master (one of the PCs). He is inordinately proud of his boots, which are of much higher quality than the remainder of his clothing (and are slightly enchanted). "I have good boots!" is his default go-to argument as to why he should do something. He never removes them. Because he's an foreigner his mastery of the social mores of the Yellow City isn't great. However 3 of the PCs are strangers from a far away land, and he frequently expresses dismay at their social blunders.
Udit is a bit of an odd ball. He revealed that his heavily pock-marked face is not due to a previous illness but to a magical misshap: he drank a potion to re-grow a lost tooth. The potion worked *too* well and made his face sprout a few dozen teeth, which had to be yanked out. It also gave him several dozen extra toes on his feet and lower legs which is why he never takes off his boots (the PCs don't know this yet). He also has two magical tattoos which enhances him - one triples his carrying capacity (the Ant tattoo), the PCs know he can carry an inordinate amount of things but haven't caught on. He also has the Octopus tatoo wich allows him to stretch his limbs (at the cost of HP damage), which the PCs don't know about.
So... given the focus of the god and the personality/nature of the henchman, what would be appropriate/suitable here?
thanks!
