Help me reward a player

Dragonsteel greatsword. Have him find a small deposit of it, but he needs to do some major skill checks to make it work out alright. Trust me, he'll be happy.

Le is just trying to cover his bets.

iwatt,

Nah Dragonsteel is way cooler. Just ask Owen Stephens. He wrote the book. :)

Ah that's easy. Give the half-orc an ingot of unobtanium that he can, over time, create a unique masterwork item suitable only to himself with. That is, he puts some blood, sweat and tears in it (maybe even literally). When he passes on unless he gives it over to someone of his bloodline, willingly, the magic of the item is gone.

I wholeheartedly concur with this idea.

And I love the name. I'm going to steal it.

How about something that's NOT a magic item?

Perhaps acceptance in human society for the half-orc -- a human or dwarvish blacksmith whose son died/never had a son takes a shying to him, teaches him everything he knows, etc.

For the half-elf, perhaps some sort of social award? Maybe he is asked to join the Knights of Luna, assuming it's using the default Greyhawk setting for the Shackled City?

I liked the ingot of unobtanium for the Half-Orc but am still looking for something to give the Half-Elf

So far it looks like this:
Half-Orc - Ingot of Unobtanium
Dwarf - Legacy Weapon
Monk - Several Monk items from his teacher
Half-Elf (Archer/apothecary) - ?
Dwarf Cleric of Luck(Evangelist)/Luckstealer [RotW modified] - ?
Human Rogue (Steet Urchin) - ?

I want the party members to each have something special that is different from the others. Does anyone have any ideas?

If the archer is also an apothecary, you might give him an ancient tome of elven lore that contains, coded within its elven verses, formulae for various useful compunds. As he progresses in level, assuming he continues to study the book (and maybe takes some levels in Decipher Script and/or History) he could find new formulae that add to a variety of things:

-sleep arrows like those possessed by the fey, ancient elven friends and allies,

-an acid that he can apply to his arrows, giving them acid damage without eating away the arrowheads,

-naturally occuring poisons with uniqe properties/abilities, (Slow as the spell, or an effect similar to Tasha's Hideous Laughter or, at higher levels, Otto's Irresistabile Dance) for which the book gives him some effective levels (specific to those poisons) of the Craft (poisonmaking) skill,

-more effective versions of existing PHB items (i.e. alchemist's fire, etc.)

-ways of replicating a few specific potions, depending on what you want to give the party and what they have already

Or whatever else seems appropriate for the player and the party...

Maybe have them meet the book's current owner, let the player help the owner based on some item or piece of info that the player already has, and then the player receives the book, a brief explanation of what might be hidden within its pages, and a clue to finding the first formula as a reward.
