Help me roleplay Jayne Cobb

Jayne is the epitomy of CN. His actions are always completely self motivated. He doesn't have any particular joy in turning in Simon and Raven...but if the money's right he'll do it. But he'll also save a whole town, if the money's right.

Evil in dnd is a lot more extreme then people give it credit for. Evil is as much a compulsion as good is, you just can't help being evil. Niska is NE imo. He has a personal code, but doesn't abide by the laws of society. And he likes being cruel, he enjoys inflicting pain.

As for the stats, I would go with the dex over strength. Jayne's probably a 15 str max.

And I think this argument shows yet again that charisma is way too complicated of a stat, noone can ever agree on it:)

If you look on charisma as force of character instead of as likeability, I think Jayne comes out pretty low. Despite his roughness and brutish forwardness, he comes across very insecure to me.

Agreed, very much so. And that same lack of self-confidence is likewise what says low charisma to me. Low(ish) int, decent wis, low cha. Compensate for the low charisma modifier with ranks in Intimidate. He can turn on the gruff and burly when he needs to, but those people who are around him long enough can see that it's just an air he can assume as situation warrants, and that he really doesn't come across as Billy Badass all the time.

Going back to playing The Man They Call Jayne...

IMHO, he's pretty much straight Thug (Fighter variant from Unearthed Arcana). Lose Medium and Heavy Armor and the 1st level bonus feat. Get 4 skill points per level and a bunch of rogue skills as class skills.

As for alignment, I say he's Neutral Evil, but is rethinking the Evil part after he had a talk with the Captain through an airlock window... :)

I think all that the airlock represented was Jayne failing his Sense Motive roll against Mal's Intimidate check. He was Chaotic Neutral/Money before and Chaotic Neutral/Money after... he just would prefer not to die.
