Help Me With My Laser Cleric

d12

First Post
My tactical warlord bit the dust and I'm thinking of building a laser cleric to take his place. I'm probably going with elf and high wisdom (of course). The party right now consists of three defenders, two strikers, a leader and a controller, so I will probably be able to avoid being on the front lines too much.

Any suggestions for feats, powers, secondary and tertiary stats and deity (Forgotten Realms) at 4th level?

I'm tempted to take the first multiclass feat for ranger to get quarry and perception, but I'm not totally sold on this.

Also, since my warlord had so many things that depended on hitting, I'm leaning toward powers that still do something even if I miss or just have an effect.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

If you're below epic level and you want to make use of a bow there's the Silvery Arrow power from dragon 386. It doesn't correctly scale to 2[W] at 21st, which is why I included the 'below epic level' bit.

Between that and sacred flame you'd have the basics all covered and a far better range than most laser clerics.

I like your choices. I took a similar path with mine but trained out of ranger around 12. I also chose to go the route of taking all the bane powers to augment turning undead to include immortals, elementals, demons, devils, giants, dragons, etc... When you hit 11 and can stun 1/3 to 1/2 of the monsters you will thank me.

I have a similar cleric, but a dwarf of the Raven Queen. I like that channel divinity power that allows a healing surge when you kill something. This just gives me another way to give healing. He is 15th level now and it does not come into play as much though. I also took a crusading weapon that allows the cleric to use a mace or hammer as a holy symbol. There is a feat to let a dwarf do more damage on a hammer.

An elf could take a bow as a weapon, but most laser powers are from range, maybe an eladrin with a longsword? This would also allow you to teleport if you need to get away or get around others to get into position.

I have noticed but not gotten into that the essential cleric has everything besed on wisdom, even melee powers that weapon attack are wisdom.

Be sure to play with a Deva, Dragonborn and Fey guys to increase the fun

If you are the only one in the fight to act, you are the star :)

I would suggest looking into one of the Essentials Warpriest builds if that's what you want; virtually all of their powers are like that, and between the three domains you can get a slightly different bent on them; offensive, defensive, and curative effects.

What is a "laser cleric"?

From the Cleric's Handbook on the WotC forums:

Focusing on Wisdom, the Laser Cleric uses many ranged powers to sit back from the frontlines out of harm’s way. While they can’t qualify for armour feats as easily, they arguably have less of a need for them than their Melee brethren by virtue of not being next to the three meter tall beast with claws and fangs the size of bananas. Wisdom is also useful for several potent skills – including the coveted Perception skill.
