Help of Epic Proportions

Hello_Kitty

First Post
I am playing an Epic Setting in the Forgotten Realms and I am having grave trouble with the game... My players are too tough for the game.. Two of them are saints, one is the magister and the last two has been buffed beyond your wildest dreams... Theese players have used loopholes in the rules to become overpowered and I call upon anyone to help me....

I want to make them suffer, I want to use the rules against them, but most of all I need someone who can give me a great idea for a scenario in FR. I dont know much about the setting and thus am a bit underqualified for the game... Or I know what the campaign setting says, but there has been written quite a lot of books and I havent read em all (the novels)

Issshh.. well, I suggest you to put that game to a halt. If you really want to play in FR, try to learn a bit more about the setting (being THE magister is not about getting bonus!). Then finally, don't let them use non-core things without your approval.

Blackdirge. :]

I don't think a DM that wants the players to suffer is a good combination. My advice, start a new campaign from scratch. If the players balk, get new players.

Too tough? You could always have a deity show up and imprison all of the characters. The argument is that they're too powerful and too much of a threat. I really don't see how even epic characters will get out of that pickle if you pick the right deity.

It depends on what you want to do. If you...

1. Want to kill their characters to teach them a lesson: Not good. You're heading down the path of becoming a very bad DM. How would you feel if all the players did was join your game to trash it?

2. Want to present your players with real challenges and/or get your current game under control: There are several routes to take.

A. What books are you allowing? Limiting the rules options available is a good way to keep control of a game.
B. What are the PC's builds? Are they rules-legal?
C. What tactics/strategies do they use to beat your BBEGs?

3. Have had it with dealing with the situation: End the campaign with a bang or whimper (your choice), and start anew. This time, exercise more control, and ask questions from other gamers (such as here) early on.

Hope this helps.

Hmm.

Well, a proper solution would involve knowing how things got quite so crazed in the first place. The Saint and Magister templates require heavy DM participation and approval to be acquired; why did you decide to give those characters the templates to begin with?

I'd suggest either rebooting the campaign with new characters, or designing appropriate challenges. If PCs have the templates you mention, then they are probably in service to powerful gods. Those gods are likely to test the PCs' devotion, perhaps by spiritual or physical quests. Or perhaps enemies of the PCs' patron deities send epic-level monsters to face them. What levels are the PCs?

It sounds like you've worked yourself into a corner that will be incredibly difficult to work your way out of. It think this is a classic case of using the reset button. It would seem far simpler DMing PCs in a campaign world where both are more of your choosing. If you are playing an Epic game without having played or DMed higher levels first (15th+), in a world you do not have a good grasp of, then you're just asking for trouble [walk before you run and all that].

Open up the Dieties and Demigods book, pick Vecna, make players fight. End of story.

OR

The Multiverse is about to collaspe for what ever reason. A few fights later, some learning the only thing to stop the destruction is an infusion of power. Lots of power. We are talking the souls of epic level characters. Do they sacrifice themselves and stop Bane from ending the multiverse or let it happen. They can go down as heroes or just end as exsistence is wiped out.

THis is me trying to reply to all thoose who wrote interesting stuff...

Since I am new at this online thingey can anyone tell me what a BBEG is.
And what the heck is Blackdirge ?? (Or who the heck)
And I am not out to kill my pc's, my gaming philosphy is that you as the DM has to provide the challenges and the negative karma when appropriate, and the PC's have to stand up to whatever you give them to shape their destiny...

The Pc's are level 30. And they chose their templates by themselves. In a fetal attempt to keep on playing I have restarted the campaign, I learned that the magister cannot become a Magister if he/she has other divine interference, and the PC that was Magister was also a chosen of Mystra.

At first I tried to make the story so that Mystra had selected one of her own to become Magister to tip the scales in her favor (being that Alaundo has predicted a soon to come Magical Disaster, odds are she knows it to) this decision has for some sort let Azuth (who normally decides theese things) take the backseat. He has (for unknown reasons) let his own "waiter" Velsharoon have a look see at who the magister was and Velsharoon has given the message on to his clergy. To tip the scales and challenge the PC's I had created a crime syndicate from Kara Tur by the name of "Black Sun" (The force is strong with this one) and their leader a half demon evil evil evil dude by the name of Jin, would have a craving to see the PC's bleed because they protected Cormyr against his latest idea. This network would know who the Magister was and come for the entire group.

Is that a good idea for a campaign???

oh and please please please if you know of something awesome about the FR that is not in the Campaign Setting then write it....

Phaerimm. Proper ones, with 22nd level wizard minimum level (yes, I said wizard, not sorceror). A couple of epic spells later with the Anauroch engulfing Cormyr and the players should have an idea of what they're up against. Don't be afraid to rearrange the continent. Let the players take over the City of Shade, then have the phaerimm knock it out of the sky.

At Epic level you should be saving the world on a regular basis.
