Help Us Kill Morrus - Just updated 23/03/05

Have the Paladin challenge the Slaadi King to hand to hand combat...you know by insulting his power and ineffectualness. Have the Paladin claim his superiority and denounce the Slaad King as a meager 'red toad' imlpying that he (the Paladin) could rule better and with more clout. Hopefully (if I remember my planelore...rolling) the Slaad will accept while the other two watch...as long as they are unopposed. The rest of the party can then focus on the Astral bad guys. Personally I'd summon as much interference as possible...at the Lich, possibly imobilize the guards. Or disintegrate the ground and throw a wall of force over it (after the people standing over-top fall in)--which is great if teleport and summoning don't work. Overall I'ld just try to condain and conquer. Keep throwing those iron bands and hold spells, keep pressing the melee (cringe), try to distract and or trap.

Good luck guys. The slaadi trick would work in 2nd edition...but I'm not sure about the newer editions.

Why are you fighting?

Seriously, it sounds like you are seriously overmatched. Either flee, or think about parley. Here's one possibility. I think someone said that the Slaad King hired you to kill the Lich Queen. In addition, you found the Queen's phylactery in the hands of a Slaad. You are now presented with the fact that they are allies, but nowhere is there evidence that the Queen knew about the "plot" to kill her (at least, nowhere I've seen so far). It's entirely possible that the Queen doesn't know about the Slaad's plot, and that the Slaad really does want her dead, for whatever reason. In fact, fighting may just be what the Slaad King wants, hoping the lich dies in the ensuing battle. At any rate, if that is the case, you could potentially try to convince the Queen of the King's betrayal and in the process secure a safe escape for yourselves.

Of course, to do that, you'll have to convince the paladin that discretion is the better part of valor, and there is the little matter of the Lich Queen's handmaiden, as well.

1) Getting the king of chaos to change his mind (which shouldn't be difficult, now should it?)

There's another thought. Maybe the King is about to show his true colors and turn on his "ally", as long as he has access to her phylactery. That's a very risky chance to take, though.

I see the walls idea getting a lot of support here. Don't rely too much on it, though. Those nasty Githyanki have Dimension Door 3/day and Planeshift 1/day.

...but then I believe someone said something about an effect that prevented teleport spells?

Eccles: The only thing I can figure that you might want to try is disintegrate a 10"cube into the floor. Use telekinesis to drop the Gith into it and slap a wall of force over top. Yeah it might take some time but it may get a couple baddies out of the action... Hell, You might luck out and they'll suffocate in there.

All I can say is:

You had a diviner in the party. A DIVINER! And you don't know all about the lich queens weaknesses and powers? And you didn't see this coming? Not to mention the communey goodness of the cleric!

It's obvious that the diviner is a double agent. Kill him first.

Beyond that: either you're hopelessly outclassed, or you're not. If you are, you're stuffed, so bank on not being outclassed.

I'd suggest:
1) Getting the king of chaos to change his mind (which shouldn't be difficult, now should it?)
2) Slapping down an area greater dispel should help. It'll help undermine preparations.
3) Wall of force and buy some time for buffing

I'd agree about the divining, but we've been knobbled by plot device.

The city we are in (same role as Sigil in other games) has a blanket ban on divination. The law enforcers can detect normal magical scryings, have teleport and some really pointy sticks. This is how we got involved with the Githyanki in the first place. Trying to get access to their funky psionic scrying.

We're in the subsewers now, where this doesn't apply any more... Bah! Divination would now have been possible if we'd realised, had time or prepared for it.

Still, the diviner - he does have a lot of gear... most of it usable by my sorceror. He's must be a spy! Burn the witch! Etc. :)

The dispel idea and talking to the king are great.

We're buffed with a load of stuff with 10 min/level durations at the moment, which helps! Think we have 5 element resistances, heroism, heroes feast and assorted others.

Hoping we're not completely outclassed, have to trust our evil DM with that, I guess...

Aww, no one thinks the best tactic is just, "Charge!"?
I said "go straight for the queen". That's about as "charge" as it comes :)

Realistically though, is this the lich queen? Or is it just any old female githyanki lich? Last I heard, there's thirteen to the dozen of 'em :p (you are soooo screwed ;) )
