Well, I certainly put some fear back into the group. Two of the three players immediately caught that Bartomeu's Bluff was a riff on Innesmouth when I started talking about the "local, inbred look" before they even arrived.
Of course, knowing those two characters, they walked into the local bar and promptly started a riot. The only reason any of them survived at all was because Rosham Boh was casting spells like there was no tomorrow. There may not be one, by the way, he's reduced to a 3 wisdom and a 1 strength, and Sellah Turik, the gunslinger type, was burned to a crisp and barely has enough hit points (after being stablized at -9) to be conscious. They were able to flee from town, but they're in a wagon with no supplies, no food, soon to be an angry mob combing the countryside for them, and no guide and no magical healing. The combat itself was pretty fun, though. We didn't do any mine-cart fleeing, but we had enough fun seeing the effect of the Cthulhu-esque spells to make up for it.
