Help with a 30th Level Monk

Bront

The man with the probe
I'm looking to design an ECL 30 monk, and not being particulary familair with the epic rules, I figured I'd ask for a little help.

The only think set in stone is I believe he'll be a Half-Celestial Golioth, though I was pondering Half-dragon instead (or both :confused: ). He will be good, and a 40 point build.

What are some good PRCs for the monk that don't sacrifice much on the monk abilities? Any tips on Epic level builds? Basicly any suggestions or tips?

Epic levels are a path to craziness, particularly deep epic. First, find out what power level your GM is looking at. It is very easy to make a wimpy ECL 30 character and it is also easy to make an ECL 30 character that will automatically defeat anyone who doesn't have the rock-paper-scissors strategy that beats your guy. So get the GM to give you a sample monster that you might have to fight and you can start min/maxing from there.

But a good place to start (if your GM is crazy enough to allow it) is the Shou Disciple PrC from Unapproachable East. What's that? I keep my Monk AC and flurry when using armour and martial/exotic weapons, continue progressing my monk skills, and get full BAB? Cool!

WOTC books only (No UA). Is that a WOTC book?

It looks to be eventualy a PC on PC game, of the end of the world. Not sure on the power level other than ECL 30. Most people look to be going with a template or LA race of some kind, so what I'm doing is actualy fairly tame.

Yeah techinically it's a wotc book, though a Forgotten REalms supplement.

Ahh, but the templated LA people are the ones who will be weak. The really crazy stuff comes from making sure you don't have any LA at all, then double up on the same epic feat so many times that you become loony. Example: Level 30 Paladin. Takes that Epic Smite feat 7 times. Bam! +240 to damage per smite (and that's just the extra smite damage)

If you want a template/monster race be a <something ECL 0> werebear monk. You get large damage progression, reach, damage reduction 10/silver (which is pretty much exactly as good as 10/-), a HUGE bonus to strength, 3 extra attacks, a ton of natural armor, scent, and +2 wisdom, just for kicks.

That being said... the epic rules are horrible, and some spellcaster who cheeses out the epic spellcasting rules is just going to kick your ass, that or as Rystil Arden said, you'll get smacked for 1000+ damage from a paladin (he forgot to cheese out the lance, spirited charge, etc).

I just didn't bother to cheese the lance:) As the Souljourner has implied, the epic rules are a rock-paper-scissors game. Let Souljourner cheese out a spellcaster, and I'll cheese out a character with SR so high nothing will touch her (and the ability to deflect those annoying no-SR conjuration ranged touch spells). But then she will die instantly to the paladin with ubersmite, since she is only able to beat out casters, but the paladin will lose to the cheesed spellcaster, and then...owww my head hurts!

Well, if you grab the Ghost template from the SRD (or perhaps Ghostwalk ghost; I don't have that one available) you can do some nifties - one to three Supernatural powers (caster level specifed as either a base or Ghost HD, whichever is higher), d12 Hit Dice (retroactive over all your classes!), Rejuvination (at ECL 30, that's a gaurunteed self-resurection with no loss of level), three stats to AC (If you go with Monk - Dex (all characters), Wis (Monk), Charisma (Ghost Deflection))

If you really want to twink out:
Lawful-Good Aligned:
Human Ghost (LA + 5)
Paladin-2 (for Divine Grace)
Monk-1 (For Wis to AC)
{Standard Spellcasting Twink 22 - Cha-base preferred}

Evil Aligned:
Human Ghost (LA + 5)
Monk-1 (For Wis to AC)
{Standard Spellcasting Twink 22 - Cha-base preferred}
Blackgaurd-2 (for Dark Blessing)

Either way, twink out charisma - it's used for AC, Saves, and Spellcasting (if you went with a Cha-based spellcasting twink, of course).

That's all pure SRD - work it carefully, and you can have a rediculous AC that is entirely touch, insane saves, good spellcasting, and at-will Su abilities that can continue to hurt people and break things (or just Possess them) well after everyone's supply of spells have run out. Sure, you won't have as high a caster level as some, and you are vulnerable to turning - but if the Sun Cleric Greater Turns you, you'll be back in 2d4 days, and if you are "merely" turned, you will be back in a few rounds - at a big distance where turning won't matter, but that nifty supernatural Telekenisis (from Ghost template) is still in range. You may have to watch out for Epic spells (a permament Control Undead?), and Evil clerics (but only if their effective Rebuking level is in the neighborhood of 58), but such a build could do (and take) some very nasty stuff. Also have to watch out for the save-or-incapacitate (such as Trap the Soul).

I'm not trying to ubertwink any old epic 30th character, but make an interesting 30th level character that I'm interested in playing. I found the monk interesting, but it looks like someone else built one too :(. Hard to say, people keep joining and droping like flies.

On a side note (and yes, somewhat munchkin like) I've been pondering a Warforged Monk with a Battlefist.

Also, is there a rule against having a follower make items for you so you get the discount and no xp penalty?
