Here is a question

I stand by Scott. Headbands affect only sentient creatures, not ones with mininal intelligence. So thusly it would need at least 8 to be considered sentient. Now if you had a ring that could awaken said animal, that's different.

So, if the players did that in *my* game, the dog (or whatever, again) would look at them with contempt, and then run the heck away, taking their headband with it. It doesn't automatically make them their friend, either. The dog might decide that it no longer wishes to be enslaved as their pet, and is going to seek its fortunes elsewhere.

But dogs like people. I would think it would be grateful... not only can it now sniff whole new vistas of crotch, it can think about sniffing crotch in an abstract fashion!

edit: Isn't it sad that we have no ozmic equivalent of the word 'vista'?

Yeah, intelligence and sentience aren't the same thing. You need awaken to get the really smart doogy.
 

Exactly. Just because he has the intelligence doesn't make him self aware OR have other aspects we consider sentience. Just look at that one ST:G ep where they debated Data's sentience.
