Somebody tried to make a comparison to the Lord of the Rings movies, but in all frankness this is not the market for a D&D movie.

Lord of the Rings was an independently driven arthouse trilogy of movies, based on a classic book of fantasy literature. It had to be authentic and it was an Oscar winning epic in final analysis. I’m ignoring The Hobbit...

A D&D movie is never going to win Oscars and is not aiming to emulate any bit of literature. It is brand for a potential franchise, and its model is largely blueprinted by things like the Marvel movies and Star Wars. Indeed, this trailer looked like a Marvel movie (comparable to Guardians of the Galaxy, primarily). If it comes across that way, Led Zeppelin theme music and all, then it is well on its way to getting it right for its chosen market.

Things can still go badly - it might be poorly scripted or greeted with skepticism by the general public; it may not get the box office that it wants. But so far, so good....

I like to think that some movies we go to see to be wowed, some we see to provoke thought, and some we see as an escape from reality for a bit. All are valid. And this is gonna be a good time

Oh, and they got the soundtrack right too....

They didn't pay a lot for it though - listen closely and you'll hear the riff is butchered.

Let's hope that's the extent of the butchering (because the mimic scene looks great)!

. . ."oh yeah, acid." Kinda neat to actually see what it would look like in motion.
Um, has anyone tried pissing in the wind? Those forward acid-bursts should end up the same way. Okay, I'm done nitpicking for now...

In the interview, Perkins mentions that Neverwinter is still in the process of being rebuilt since the earlier volcanic disaster.
Sure, but that still doesn’t explain why the river—which, decades after the disaster, is still shown on several recent maps (and in the still-active MMO) as flowing to the south of Castle Never—suddenly has started flowing to the castle’s north instead.
