WotC has provided a full list of changes between the 2014 and 2024 versions of Dungeons & Dragons' Player's Handbook.

The changes include classes, backgrounds, species, spells, stat blocks, feats, equipment, rules, and new terminology.
Also included is a list of things from 2014 which are still usable in 2024, which includes 7 subclasses, 2 species, and 3 feats.

There's a separate list which details the changes to the D&D Beyond platform.

They used the Sigil as Common to explain why the language is the same across all D&D worlds. If your world has no access to Sigil, then the common tongue would not be understandable by visitors from Krynn or Toril.
To be honest, I see no reason why it should be. And the whole "dispersed across the multiverse" thing falls apart if you realize that languages change pretty quickly over time and the same language tends to evolve in different directions in different locations, so that it splinters into different new languages pretty quickly.

Does Spelljammer really have any famous NPCs though? I can think of Teldin Moore from the 2e novels and the gang from the comics (none of whom I can name offhand), so I guess it has some NPCs. But famous? Not so much.
Which is probably why it didn't get its own chapter-heading artwork.

That's science fiction, we're playing a fantasy game here!
Fantasy is all about the static mythic shared past; science fiction is all about the ever-changing myriad futures!

There is no reason why every D&D world should have the same general monsters, spells and magic items either. But they do.

I'm not sure I agree with your definition. But! I don't have a different one to offer at this moment
nice, I approve. My books are here, my game is next Saturday; my players all (except for our artificer) updating their sheets.

And my new gaming table is all set up

I finally glanced at the lists. I wonder, do they list anywhere things that were removed, if any? For example, were there any spells removed? I am only seeing lists of New, Redesigned, and Revised spells (not sure the difference between a Redesign and a Revision but 🤷‍♂️ ). But no list of spells that were dropped.

They do talk about things that are not in this book but that are still usable from 2014 right at the top - tempest domain, school of necromancy, half-elves and more - but not spells. Maybe... there were no spells removed?

And, no doubt discussed elsewhere, but Bladesinger was one of the first new sub-class in the 2014 rules set (from Sword Coast Adv Guide iirc). I don't see mention of it here...

This might be a better "change log" type list than the official ones on D&DB, as the cynic in me thinks that the DDB list may be biased towards getting folks to prefer the new version by not pointing out what's missing (always perceived so negatively - taking things away).

Warning, the above is quite, um, opinionated. Also inserts their own products, which is it's own kind of ick in a different way from DDB.

I know not everyone does, but I splash a lot of science fiction in my dnd.
I do too! I was mostly kidding around about why Star Wars is considered Fantasy and Star Trek Sci-Fi – the "high theory" discussion of the genres and what needs to be explained versus what needs to be hand-waived.
