Hide and Blur

I think that only works if the entire square is within the efffect of concealment - which blur doesn't do.

The requirement is that the character has cover or concealment, and blur provides the character with concealment.

But like Patlin says - you can hide in the total cover provided by a tower shield, but that doesn't stop someone seeing a tower shield walking across the courtyard...

Specifically he was talkng about moving from a place of concealment to another place of concealment - which is slightly different.

"Move between cover (includes concealment here) in the Rules Compendium."

Moving from one hiding place to another.

To meet line of sight

"Two creatures can see each other if they can trce at least one lclear straight line from any part of on creature's space to any part of another creatures space. The line is clear if it doesn't cross or even touch squars that block line of sight."

There aren't any "squares" involved here - so technically line of sight isn't blocked.

Yeah I guess that makes sense...the blur becomes the cover...damn...ok so I guess it's on to invisibility...I really didn't like the idea of just turning invisible I was really just trying to become harder to see to give my ability to hide a chance to help me move from place to place...kinda lame. I'll continue trying to look up that camo spell to see if it will help any.

Camouflage (which I don't the book but I'll look into it) sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Do you know whose spell list the spell would be in?
Ugh got someone to send me the wording of the camo spell....it sounds like exactly what I want but it doesn't convey the effect I would want...I'll see if I can work something out with my DM.

Well, it essentially is a penalty now, according to how the Rules Compendium works it out. For every space you move through without that cover or concealment, you take a penalty to your hide check (until the penalty gets so high that it is impossible to hide, or your target is no longer observing you, usually because you just stuck a dagger in that opponents back and they are no longer seeing anyone).

Darn it, you just made me make another will save against buying the Rules Compendium! I don't have that one, and with 4e coming out I wasn't going to get it.

How much is the penalty per square?

I don't recall. I think I might have mentioned it in this thread:

http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=211149

It might just be the Complete Adventurer rule:

"You can also use this option to sneak up on someone from a hiding place. For every 5 feet of open space between you and the target, you take a -5 penalty on your Hide check. If your Hide check succeeds, your target doesn't notice you until you attack or make some other attention-grabbing action. Such a target is treated as being flat-footed with respect to you."
