D&D (2024) How well do the 2024 stealth rules deal with hiding in plain sight (AKA camouflage)?

A spin-off from the multi-page "new stealth rules" thread.

How do the new rules deal with hiding in plain sight?

In this case, cover/concealement is not relevant because you are in plain sight. Maybe you are dressing like the locals and pretending to be one of them in sight of the guards. Maybe you are camouflaging a hunting hide or a wagon so that pursuers ride past you without noticing.

In the 2014 rules I woud have used an Intelligence (Stealth) roll for this (maybe Intelligence (Survival) for the hunting hide), contested by the observer's Wisdom (Perception) or perhaps Intelligence (Perception).

Pretending to be someone else is Deception. Preparing a hunting hide would probably be Survival, and it would then act as a source of full cover within which to take the Hide action.
