Quick question to the Hive at large: in your opinion, is a PrC meant for wizards, with two good saves (Will and Ref), +1 spellcasting level for all 10 levels, a special power at every level, and 4+ skill points too powerful?

Yeah, its a little rich. You can always institute the XP charge on the class, that's presented as an option in the DMG.

You mind showing us your crunchy goodness? Cause it may be powerful, but not uncommon in the PrC world.

It's still a work in progress at the moment. If all goes according to plan (mwahahaha) you may get to see it soon though.

What are they giving up?

I'm not sure I understand; basically, they don't get what they would keep getting if they took another class.

My basic idea for this PrC was that its similar to the Loremaster, albeit with different powers and two good saves, not one.

Do they still get all of the things that they would have gotten advancing as a Wizard..plus the things that they get for the prestige class?

Actually you can if you do it right, but I guess if it's gonna cause an argument I'll just label that one as a "personal project never to see the light of day" (got a lot of those) and leave it at that.

;)

Now on to the monkey dance!

No, I'm going with the basic "+1 spellcaster level, but not to anything else (familiar, bonus feats, etc)" routine.

Why not just contact them and ask for permission? If it is a good idea, they'd need someone to do it (that could be you!) and you avoid the possibility of someone else seeing there is interest, going around you, contacting the company themselves, and telling you later to cease and desist. It's just as simple to do it while respecting the rights of the people who own those rights as it is to do it wrong.

You know what class I would like to write up? A wizard that really delves into his familar. I'd like to see a PrC that really goes overboard with the little critters. They always seem tacked on in my games, the players never fully utilize them. It's partially my fault sure, but i try.

Well, if they are giving up bonus Feats (which is big) and can no longer have a familiar (pretty big) then it seems like it may work out to be fairly balanced. I'd have to see the final write up, of course, but it sounds cool. Are you starting a thread on it somewhere? :)
