Why not just contact them and ask for permission? If it is a good idea, they'd need someone to do it (that could be you!) and you avoid the possibility of someone else seeing there is interest, going around you, contacting the company themselves, and telling you later to cease and desist. It's just as simple to do it while respecting the rights of the people who own those rights as it is to do it wrong.

When you're right, you're right. And you're right. Any idea who owns the rights now?

You know what class I would like to write up? A wizard that really delves into his familar. I'd like to see a PrC that really goes overboard with the little critters. They always seem tacked on in my games, the players never fully utilize them. It's partially my fault sure, but i try.
Write it for Horade. :D

Well, if they are giving up bonus Feats (which is big) and can no longer have a familiar (pretty big) then it seems like it may work out to be fairly balanced. I'd have to see the final write up, of course, but it sounds cool. Are you starting a thread on it somewhere? :)

They won't get the wizard bonus feats, thats true...but it won't stop them from having a familiar, its just that taking levels in this PrC means it wont improve any. Still, I'm glad you think it sounds balanced, I was a bit worried there. :)

I'm not starting a thread on this though. I've learned (the hard way) that you don't declare your projects until you've completed them, otherwise if something goes wrong you're left with egg on your face, having to explain to the eager peoples why you're eating your words. Hence, I always play my cards close to my chest.

If all goes well though, this will be up soon.

I'll be sure to do that. It's officially on my list of projects now.

Alzrius, if you don't put it in a thread, send me via email if you don't mind. Use kane_leal@hotmail.com, though. The one in my bio gets too much spam for me to see it with any certainty. Posting a completed one in the House Rules though would get some good criticisms. They can be very helpful over there.

I'm off to bed, people. goodnight.

Night Skade!

Sorry, but I'd rather not email it to you. It's nothing personal, its just like I said, I like to be secretive about my stuff, and because its already so close to completion that if all goes well, you'll be able to see it soon enough anyway. Still, the House Rules idea might be a good thing I suppose...I'm always big on what's "canon" and what isn't, so I've never been to that forum.

I guess if worse comes to worst, and this project doesn't fly, I can put it there.

I did not know it was for publication. No worries. Just be sure I know when you get your project out there.

OK, really, gone now.

Sorry. Got tied up there for a bit. Do you have the original rules with the legal stuff in the front?

Hmm...seems rather dubious...still, it could be them though...

I'm not certain either. WotC did tell the artists to make them "Exactly the same, but different." The quickest way to do that would be to rephotograph the original engravings. I've done graphic work for awhile though - and that "revised" word (or whatever it is" looks like it was photgraphed with the rest of the cover.
