They won't get the wizard bonus feats, thats true...but it won't stop them from having a familiar, its just that taking levels in this PrC means it wont improve any. Still, I'm glad you think it sounds balanced, I was a bit worried there.

I think one of the biggest things about a familiar is the ability to share spells and cast spells through it. Maybe you could limit it in some way to only allowing what could be done up until the point at which they switched from Wizard? Just a thought...

I'm not starting a thread on this though. I've learned (the hard way) that you don't declare your projects until you've completed them, otherwise if something goes wrong you're left with egg on your face, having to explain to the eager peoples why you're eating your words. Hence, I always play my cards close to my chest.

If all goes well though, this will be up soon.

heh. I know the feeling. Maybe you could start a thread on some out of the way board and only invite the people that you wish to help you. Horade or my own boards might work for that. Not really enough traffic to cause any pressure. I can even create a private one, away from prying eyes, and let you have moderator status so that only the folks you want there will have access. Let me know.

Wow, thanks for the generous offer Mark! That's okay though. The way things are now, this thing I'm working on is over 90% complete, at least as far as the part I'm working on. I'm just kicking over the last few bits right now.

On your suggestion about the familiar thing...isn't that what just the "+1 to spellcaster level only" does? If a wizard has 7 wizard levels and 10 levels in a PrC that grants +1 spellcaster level, his familiar only has the abilities it would with a 7th level wizard, even though he's throwing spells around as a 17th level caster.

And having read the posts that were made in the meantime, now, I'd suggest it might be an even better idea to make an arrangement with DG and Horacio to do this through Horade so it could become Official d20 Stuff (tm) at some point soon. They seem to be cultivating a lot of new people and have the facility to utilize a lot of talent, whereas my own operation is so steeped in my own projects at this point that I doubt I could do it the same justice in a timely manner that they could.

Sounds about right. It's kinda tough for me to grasp the whole thing but you've got it all in mind so you'd be a better judge than I. Good luck with it and I'll wait with the rest of the masses to see a finished product.

Would if I could, but I can't. This project is headed for one place, and one place only. If it doesn't fly, most of it has to be scrapped (read: setting-specific).
