Savage Species has a "winged" template that I was thinking of applying to elves. But it has more comedic uses. Winged dwarves? Winged halflings?

I forgot how fun Icewind Dale is...just reinstalled it and started a game.
As for the Winged template. Very fun. My players have learned to fear the Half-Illithid Winged Kobold Archers.

They're the Avariel, a race that came up in the Forgotten Realms way back in 2nd edition. The game takes place about 120-130 or so years after a huge conflict between Half-God children of Bhaal, the former Lord of Murder. Lotsa stuff changed. Lotsa people died. So now Faerun is not what it used to be. Almost like a homebrew, with all the stuff that changed. No more Elminster, no more Drizz't, etc. But big-as-hell problems are ever-present.

Yes. Yes it does. However, the IWD2 engine is absoloodely wonderful, (not just 'cause it uses 3E) so it's certainly worth a play. And there's a nifty group out there working on a conversion of BG2 into the IWD2 engine - it looks like it's coming along fairly well. I'm looking forward to it.
