I wonder if part of the issue might be that any reprint of the PHB has to wait until the initial print runs for the DMG and MM have been done first.

Yes, WotC's answer of "We have no current plans to go back to press" could easily be because they have no ability to go "back to press" until February. They may consider it then, if the demand is still there.

Especially given that the initial 2024 PHB print run was the largest print run they've ever done (as per that other thread). I imagine the 2024 DMG and 2025 MM print runs will also be the largest print runs they've ever done of those two books as well. And since that is likely why they couldn't print them all at the same time, it could easily be that they are unable (rather than unwilling) to make up the shortfall in alt covers at this time.

So.... Australian and New Zealand players want to know what happened to the alt-covers that meant there were so few copies available in Australia. Are you able to find out?

So update for me.

Order was canceled but gamestore we play at is a chain and apparently one of there early orders has gone through.

Remote chance something like 2 or 10 books might be the alt covers.

More books than anticipated will be available but they're not sure what covers.

If only 2 are coming in apparently I'm getting 1 of them.

My pre-order has been cancelled, due to the retailer not getting it's promiseed allocation. So yes it is WotC unless my retailer and several others are all telling the same lie

Or it could be your distributor flubbing the order and shifting blame... or numerous other things.

From my store, when there are preorders, once they got their limit, they remove the preorder options. Perhaps they took too much in your store?

From my conversations with my FLGS, the FLGS started taking pre-orders and then, at a latter date, were told they were not getting all they ordered. So, it was more a matter of the sequence of events and the information available.

So update. Pre-order was canceled but some books arrived today. Went in for some board games. Boss helped me out and it looks like I'm getting the alt art. Assuming no more screw ups. Same price as 2014.

I can't pick it up until Friday though. They wouldn't let me flick through it but got a glance to check for damage.

They were assigned a whopping total of 4 with a 2/2 split. 10 arrived apparently 5/5 split.

I can report that my local UK FLGS just received a second shipment of alt-cover PHB's. There are 15 or so now, stacked on their D&D shelf.
